I am a glider pilot student and just thought i would bring it up and how awesome it is :rock

Saturday helped put together my clubs new Schweizer 2-33 but i have been learning on a Grob 103 (much sexier and sleeker :D)

Anyways if you've never flown a few stalls with no engine it is awakening and one hell of a time! Go to ssa.org and you can find a glider organization near you most of which will offer some form of intro flight where a commercial rated pilot will take you up and might give you the stick for a bit.  :banana: Anyways if you've thought about flight school but cant afford it try soaring its much cheaper. :airplane:

Hopefully i will solo in a few weeks at the age of 15 :D Then for my 16th b-day i plan on getting my private pilot liscence  :x :x :x

Flown a glider a few times...

Once in a 152...couple times in a 182 and couple times in a 206. :D

That will be the clubs next addition so we can practice touch and go's since you hopefully only land once per flight in a glider :D

Although i have gotten 2 landings off a bounce once  :devil :banana:

I think so.

Powered gliders often only have an engine strong enough to keep them  up not for take-off per say. And many actually fold up into the fuselage when not in use

How long is that tow rope? :headscratch:


Most thermals we get are fairly strong and we have easily climbed from 2000 to 4000 in about 10-15 minutes

the rope is about 60-70 ft i think.you can see a UFO under the left wing of the towplane,and if u look past the towplane you can see a runway,those Predator drones takeoff and land there.

that thermal was weak.i think it was only about 300 ft of + lift and it was moving everywhere.once it disapated i went looking for another and couldnt find one.I remembered a landmark of where that thermal was and went back to try to catch it again.but the whole way to it was about -600 sink.i got to where that thermal was and it was -800.

after that i was 1600 AGL and had to put er down.

I know, I was just laughing at the 'powered glider' because if it were a 'true' glider, it would have no power.

Hmmmm we use 200 ft long ropes and that towplane looks pretty far away...  :headscratch: It may be the camera but no biggie.

Where are you out at? Im in NW florida

southern california.

the rope could be more like 150 ft.on takeoff im not lookin at the rope much,just the towplane.
