Nashorn
« on: July 31, 2011, 10:24:35 PM »
I would like to request the SdKfz 164, also kown as the Nashorn.

Armor:
                                  thickness/slope
                          front           side          rear
gun shield          15mm/30°
superstructure    15mm/70°    10mm/15°  10mm/10°
hull                   30mm/12°    20mm/0°    20mm/21°

Armament: KwK 43 L'71, 40 rounds of ammunition

Speed: 42km/hr (26.71mph)

This would provide us with a cheaply perked or free vehicle able of penetrating the frontal armor of the Tiger II at combat ranges. Easily destroyed or damaged by any cannon armed vehicle, even the SdKfz 251 could turret it with the 7.92mm mg's. This would provide us a vehicle with a superb gun, and good mobility, balanced by very weak armor.

I think anything with that gun precludes it being cheap.  That gun makes armor significantly less useful and more moderately priced perk tanks such as the Panther V G, Sherman VC Firefly and Tiger I would feel the brunt of the Nashorn's availability.

I think it'd be relatively fair, seeing as it's an open-top vehicle. Quick strafe or well placed rockets and it'd be disabled.

Doesn't help much for vfield vs vfield fights were aircraft are seldom seen.

One round from an M8 and this thing should be burning nicely. It would be no worse than the panther. Reload speed is second slowest in the game (its just a hair slower than the T-34/85), it has limited traverse, and average speed.

Even a jeep would (or should) be able to turret this thing, perhaps even kill it. I don't know the penetration for the .50caliber M2.

19mm at 0 degrees of deflection and short range, if I recall correctly.  Might have been 30 degrees deflection.  It was ~5-7mm worse than the Hispano 20mm using AP ammo.

then yeah, this thing would be vulnerable to a jeep (theoreticly, we can only speculate how HTC would model it)

Hummel, maybe. The wesp would be best used as a direct fire platform, since the splash damage probably wouldn't be sufficient to kill a building.

To be used like they were intended, HTC would have to add randomization to the shells, and you would probably need round 10 guys in the hummels to quickly take a town down.

Land gunner mode would be nice to have. Or perhaps have it just give you the range and a general bearing. You have to aim the gun yourself.

this cant happen because randomization is based on recoil and wind. aka we already have it - wind in the Mains. and in the AvA and SEAs you have full randomization due to the fact that man created the randomizing shell landings due to the inability to see where the shell landed :aok

what about the aircraft's guns? is it just due to slightly different aim point due to the recoil?

Also, can you tell me if the M4(75)'s rockets have any randomization to them? They seem to behaving more like rifled cannon than true rockets.
