Jeeez, the Verizon guys are right over there by 495, ask them!

The connections loosen up sometimes with the wind blowing the lines around and stuff. You can open and tighten the lines on the test box on the side of your house, and any connection blocks inside the house (where the lines split off to other phone jacks). They will ask you to do this before they send any one out any way. My mother-in-law just went through this with the phone company and it turned out to be a line issue on the poles.

Make sure that everything plugged into your phone line except your dsl modem has a filter on it..phones, alarms, satellite receivers, etc. A bad or missing dsl filter can cause static on your phone line. Take an analog phone outside to your nid(network interface device) ..there should be a place to unplug the line going inside your house and plug in the phone.  If you have good dial tone there, the trouble is inside or in the wiring going inside.  If you still have noise with the house off of it, call your repair service, the problem is on their equipment or cabling and they will have to fix it. If the trouble is inside, pm me and I can tell you a few things to check.
Sometimes the dsl is filtered at the nid.  If it is in your case, there won't be filters on the equipment inside.  Everything except the pair feeding your dsl modem will be filtered outside.
