Does the sound work offline?

If you didn't already have one, you might want to try downloading Mitsu's or USRanger's soundpacks, and replace the default soundpack you may have already had (?)

Just from my POV.

Rename the 'settings' folder and see if it restores the sounds.  Also. kill off any custom sound packs you might have installed.

I assume you have not removed the "sounds.res" file from the game root installation folder?  If that file is not there, then you will not have any game sounds.

Just as a test.  That is why you do not delete it.  You can always put it back if that does not solve the problem.

Did you see if the "sounds.res" file is in the game installation folder?

All the game sounds (except the WW1 sounds) are in the "sounds.res" file.  The only reason all of those sounds would disappear would be if the file could not be read or it was missing.

Or the sound config file in the "settings" folder got corrupt.

Try removing the "sounds.res" file, then install a fresh copy of the game over the top of the current installation.

Nothing left to try.  If the game played no sounds, it would be easy, but to only play the ones from the ww1 sounds resource file and not from the sounds.res file makes no sense at all, unless you have some really bizarre anti-xxx program that is preventing the opening of the "sounds.res" file.
