They did fight. The Re-2005 has  confirmed kills. It served at squadron strength. It meets every criterion for addition to the game.

I think the real problem here is that I didn't ask for something thats either British, or useless and redundant  :neener:.

The Re.2005 really didn't serve in squadron strength, with only 29 being built.  The plane was flown by squadrons that also flew other types, not just the Re.2005.  I think at any one time, peak strength was 10 flown by 362a Squadriglia.  The first squadron to receive them, 362a Squadriglia (equipped with 8) lost all but two and those were then transfered to 371a Squadriglia and soon destroyed on the ground.  Then 362a Squadriglia received 10 more Re.2005s shortly before the Armistice in 1943.  At any one time there was no more than 10 operational Re.2005s.  The ones that Germany took after the Armistice are in question as their fates aren't really known.  Some claims have the planes defending Berlin from air raids, other claims the oil fields at Ploesti while more recent research indicates the Re.2005s never left Italy or saw any further action and were most likely destroyed on the ground or by their crews.

It is also worth noting that the Re.2005 never really entered into production.  With the exception of the two prototypes, only 27 pre-production models were built for a total of 29.

Alright AKAK, thanks. You're always a gold-mine of information.

Do you just have a bunch of origional sources, or do you have some credible online sources you could share?
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Fiance bought me a crap load of aviation books that I've just got to reading over the summer to kill the boredom of being stuck at home.  A couple of the books are on Italian planes and I also found another one online that was free (Giorgio Apostolo, Reggiane Re 2001, La Bancarella Aeronautica).

Butcher-

Here are some books you might want to check out.

Courage Alone: The Italian Air Force 1940-1943
Regia Aeronautica: The Italian Air Force 1923-1945 - An Operational History
Gianni Cattaneo, The Regianne 2000, Doubleday (free download)

As I said before, a big reason I like them is  that they would be the first new new fighters we've had in a while. Not just redone graphics or a new variant of an old fighter.

Looking back on what AKAK said, and information I was able to dig up through tedious and time-consuming research at my local library district (yes, they've pooled together into a district that loans books to other librarys upto 150 miles away  :bhead), I think getting the Re.2005 is kind of a long strech. If HTC OK's the M26, then we could probably get it.
