Thanks again for running this setup~ I was even around to play with some jugs hehe.

Did you look into doing it in New Guinea (Coral Seas map)? Most of the action was between the two closest bases, doesn't seem like. Might have to set it up in a separate arena with no enemy icons for a little immersion.

When I originally wrote this one the Coral Sea map was buggy and couldn't be used. The Rangoon map gave the best representation of New Guinea. I'm going to move the setup to the Coral Sea map when I have time. Real life dealt me a few cards this month taking up my spare time and Jimson decided to run it again before I had time to make the switch. Hopefully I'll get time this month to switch it over to the Coral Sea map I have a couple of others I want to use that map on as well.

Yes why don't you do that! It's preferable to your complaining if the D-11 isn't in every setup, or if the setup isn't on a map you like or plus your new beef of if it doesn't have the icons settings you like. Please knock yourself out. :aok

Ouch! Don't take your frustration with your bad hand of cards on me!~ relax, I am not your enemy! who else is going to be more interested in Pacific Thunder(bolts)?:rofl

Since you want to get personal, AvA has always been a no enemy icon until recently, I've always liked the challenge~ changing it to 3k has not brought any more players into this. It's still basically a ghost town except for the same bunch of guys that hopefully show up all together every now and then to mix it up.

I just like the D-11 in its appropriate historical match ups and geographic settings~ that's the point of this arena isn't it, to get it a little closer? When its La's v 109's I do that, or f4fs v A6m2s I'm not clamoring for D-11s.

There is always the MA's for P-38 on mosquito nonsense~ I always have something positive to say for someone who takes the time to put these things together, does some research, improves a terrain, and makes it happen. Again, thank you for your efforts!

Now that the option of creating your own arena is out there, it will be fun to play around with it~ create another little AvA ghost town, Bob Ross style with lovely pink evening light and a little juggy base here, and a little zeeky base there~ may even attract some old school no icon types...:aok

Good luck sorting things out till pocket aces come up again~ Seadog36

First off I'm not the one that's suggested P-38s vs Mossies. You'll never see that kind of setup out of me and you never have. I do spend a lot of time trying put put out balanced historically based and fun setups. Sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss. So don't go associating the P-38 mossie stuff with me.

Since you want to get personal, AvA has always been a no enemy icon until recently.

Wrong the AVA went no enemy icons about a year and a half ago. Before that it was limited icons as far back as 2001 when I first started flying there. So you're missinformed or just not as old school as you see to think you are. Also one feature of the AVA that has always been the norm is you don't get your favorite airplane every week. To be honest I wrote the Pacific Thunder setup with you in mind and you continue to have complaints. So yes by all means go build your own and good luck to you.

It's a double edged sword. There was a big summertime drop in players while we still had no enemy icons.

I didn't expect a big surge when we decided to experiment with turning them back on.

Most of those who wanted them on haven't really made the AvA their home anyway.

Last week, we did have some of our best numbers all summer, but that could be attributed to any number of things.

For some, no enemy icons was a half measure. What they really wanted to see was no icons for either side.

That idea was very contentious because a lot of folks wanted to at least be able to keep track of their wing men.

Still others thought that whatever the settings were they needed to be the same for both sides.

Now that we have the ability for no icon player hosted arenas, those like minded folk might consider collaborating on such an arena.

If such an arena could build a following that consistently strains the 16 player capacity and beats what we get in AvA, we could consider bringing it into our larger capacity arena.

Good input jimson. It was only my intention to thank the responsible parties for putting this setup (which I am particularly interested in) on again and inquire about the Coral Sea version~ not to jack it and make it another referendum on Icons, there are plenty of those running.

I have been away much more over the summer as well, but participation patterns seem to be the same; pretty sparse but consistent depending on the time of day~ almost as if icons were really inconsequential to participation.

I will be curios to see if a no/limited player sponsored setup will fly regardless.

Regards~

No icons forced you to really work to keep everything organized. It is major component to the realism and really adds to the excitement. It forced people to quit the tunnel vision crap and keep your head on a swivel. Kind of like real world! When you finished a palm sweating, g-cranking, close fight you felt like you accomplished something. You weren’t celebrating your ability to keep the red icon in your sights.

Now that we have the ability for no icon player hosted arenas, those like minded folk might consider collaborating on such an arena.

You misunderstand Jappa.

I'm only one small part here, I'm for anything that brings a healthy consistent population.

That's pretty hard to do when so many have different preferences.

As crazy as it sounds since we can't fill one arena, I wish we had two. One for no icons/full "realism", one for relaxed realism.

I would like to see some folks experiment with the player hosted arenas. See what's most popular among the AH community.

You're too nice Jimson.  The guy ignorantly told ya off, tell 'em what he can do with his pier.

Oh, Jappa's OK.

Sounded to me like he thought I was telling no icon fans to walk off the pier.

Ooops my mistake then, sorry.  I know how tender you are and I didn't want any one bashing ya.  Well at least not without a better punch-line.  :)

Realism is not making it very significantly harder than it is in reality.

Pat yourselves on the back and congratulate each other on how much more "real" you're all keeping it compared to all the rest of us fakers.

I put it in quotes for a reason.

Neither way is realistic, boils down to personal preference.
