A pet peeve/wish
« on: August 15, 2011, 05:34:14 PM »
It is a pet peeve, but, as a pilot I am accustomed to flying by instruments. In AH sim land I find it slightly annoying when trying to train instrument flying to trainees. There are variances in the compasses and would like to see this addressed at some point. The hash marks between the 30 degree markings are off. This shows in the p-51d and p-38's gyro and magnetic compasses. I have not researched any of the other planes. Perhaps some other in game flyers have seen this.
Could some attention be payed to this at some point. Be happy to work with the nice folks at AH to resolve.

basically ht has said many times that he wants players to concentrate on fighting and not on flying.   you want to concentrate on looking at the instruments or at the cons flying all around you.

+1, but keep in mind that most planes (especially the ones made out of metal) have magnetic deviation on the compass. What we need is a heading card under each compass to give the corrections.
The heading indicator though should be correct. If it is not than you should put it in the bug forum.

Yes I know about deviation. Count the hash marks on the magnetic comp in the 51 and 38 it is off. Yes in combat you won't be reading the compass.. however alot of flying in groups and as wing men requires accurate instrumentation. Ask any fighter pilot. As I said is a pet peeve but would be nice to be precise. Also the gyro compass corrected the deviation for precise navigation. The mag comp. was a backup etc. Should be an easy fix regardless. Keep up the good work HT.

And Semp there is a reason why all the flight data is now displayed in the modern jets HUD, speed, aoa, alt, heading all are kind of essential to keep track of in a dogfight. :)

Keep flying.

Just a guess, but the rotating barrel of the compass is probably low poly with six or eight sides. So if it's the physical shape that's causing the problem then I wouldn't count on a quick fix.

But if the graphic "skin" for the compass has too many or too few hashes, then that might be fixed easier. You might post a request in the Skins forum and some expert there might modify one according to your specs, or at least tell you how to do it.

I can barely even read the instruments in high resolution :S

Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Obviously the easiest solution is to buy a military lensatic compass and keep it in your lap while you're flying.  :neener:
