Nice work Pop..... and Jeremy.

You should both be proud :aok

MMA takes skills, brains, and heart!

A small fact Re the MMA:
For the record There have been more brain ingeryis in traditional boxing than in the Highly regulated MMA

The American American Association of Neurological Surgeons estimated that about 90% of boxers end up sustaining brain damage, pointing out that a direct hit in the ring, to the head, is equivalent to being hit with a 12 pound wooden mallet travelling at around 20 miles per hour. This is NOT the case with MMA.

When one attains an intelligent understanding of the sport of MMA and it's effect on the body, as compared to round after round of direct blows to the head seen in boxing, it becomes apparent that the more "barbaric" of the two sports is boxing. Unfortunately, because most cannot focus past the blood, ignorance often rules the day in the main stream media.

Jeremy, as you know use his energy  ;)

that's because in MMA they stop the fights long before any damage is sustained.....besides the fact that there are far less rounds in MMA....if UFC had the same amount of rounds and didn't stop the fight on the first "knock out" you would see much different "statistics".

dedalos, I personally don't agree with fighting sports either.  With that being said, I also don't agree with you jumping in and calling them neanderthals.  I've talked to Doom before about this subject but not in a "I don't agree with it so it's wrong" kind of way.  Yes, he is a squaddie, but that's not why I'm defending him.  You constantly give your comments on this BBS degrading others.  If a topic of police come up, you have a whole lot to say.  A topic about youngsters, you have a whole lot to say.  You may have the right to freedom of speech, but just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.  I am happy for Doom and his son, even though I am not a fan of fighting sports due to the violence, but THEY also have the right to do what they want as long as it's legal.  Turning pro in anything is an accomplishment.  Look back at all the posts made in this thread, and you will see you were the first to start trouble.  We all have opinions, everyone knows that.  Not all of us agree with it but a lot of others do.  Take these words to heart.  Just because you can comment on something, doesn't mean that you should.  Let others live their lives without grief.
I'm sure you'll come after me now, but this post was just meant to say "relax" in the most respectful way I could.

So, I should only have an opinion if I agree with the OP?  I should only use my freedom of speech if I agree with a post?  You mentioned that I have a lot to say about posts referring to police or youngsters.  Yes I do!  Too subjects that I am very familiar with since I have kids and a big part of my family and friends is in the "law enforcement" business (in different countries too). But how is that related to this topic?  I am just trying to understand what you are trying to tell me.

There is a very easy way to get me not to post.  Don;t start a thread.  Once you do, you should welcome all comments/opinions.  Seems like you guys only welcome opinions that agree with you?

It is my opinion that as a parent you should encourage your kids to do something useful and constructive with their lives.  Sorry, but that will not change just because some guy you know posted on a BBS.  If you want to make them gladiators for my entertainment go right ahead, but my opinion will remain the same.

I am being honest with  you, don't take it as coming after you just because I don;t agree with you  :salute

since we're sharing opinions :old:

my opinion is that MMA/UFC is a joke, and the fans doubly so

Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

No you just should allow pepole to enjoy a happy moment in their life, with out shyting on it. Some times decorum takes precedence over your egotistical opinions on how your perspective is better than someone else. At times the best choice is to just keep your trap shut..

I would agree with that, but who are you to decide what that is? everybody has dreams, just because they difffer from yours is no reason to make a mockery of them.

You generally demonstrate total disregard and insensitivity to your fellow man. As a parent and roll model, do you feel those are good traits? Do they encourage your kids to do something useful and constructive with their lives? opinions and freedom of speech are great and I totally respect you for using your liberty but there is a time to voice it and a time to consider your own hypocrisy..

I agree.  It would have been best to keep his trap shut and go celebrate his and his sons achievements.  Oh, wait, I think you are saying that his opinion matters more than mine and only he should be allowed to post.  My bad.  Keep in mind that I did not walk into his house to express my opinion.  Believe it or not, all I can post is my perspective.  I could not post about yours and I have no interest in doing that either.

I just decide for myself and not for others.  I am not forcing him to do anything.  All I did was express my opinion and ask a question that you guys have not answered yet.  Everybody has dreams.  Why can;t I comment if someones dream is to become a punching bag?

:lol disregard and insensibility?  Is this a funeral or something?  Are my kids on this BBS reading this?  :lol  But yes, I do encourage them to express their opinion.  You are also right about a place and time to voice my opinion.  This is it.  He brought the subject up and I asked the question (But I am guessing the place and time should be defined by you?).  Have you seen me making any comments towards someone who said they are trying to cure cancer?

So, maybe you can answer the question.  Why, as a parent, encourage your kid to go that route given the choices this country provides.  Simple question really.  Why get upset about it?

That's my business. What others choose is up to them. There are way to many dynamics behind the scenes as to why pepole are motivated to move in the directions they do.

The guy is obviously proud of his sons accomplishment as he should be, to reach that level takes determination and lots of hard work. let him enjoy it regardless if you approve.

Again I'm all for speaking your mind and sticking to your convictions 100%..But in some instance's its best not to be such a wet mop and zipp it ...

Yes, I agree.  I am just curious to know.  Obviously I don't get it so an answer would have helped.  But we both know what the answer is, right?  Why else would you guys get so defensive about it.  He can be proud and answer the question at the same time, no?

Can you answer this one?  What is your relation to him?

You worked hard, did well and those who are decent and normal are glad for you !

I never worry about clowns who look for bad, there will always be those... I have to busy and happy a life to worry why some always look for bad, and some always look for good. Perhaps they deserve pity ?
I am just happy to be in the latter group <S> again! Enjoy and be safe!

Furball is alive?

We allow him to post once a month, when he returns from tracking the Yeti.   He gets pissed off and has to come into town for more booze, only to miss the Yeti again.     But he's a persistent one and that is trait which should be admired.
