Interesting read.  I would like to believe that the Germans didnt really "fear" the Super Pershing as the article said.  I would be willing to bet they had their eyes looking up in concern for Allied aircraft far more than they did looking over the horizon in worry of Allied armor, especially the King Tiger.  Just a hunch.

If any specific tank could be cited, it would have been the Panther but generally it was a response to all the German heavy tanks and the beginning of changes to the US Army's armored doctrine.

They gave it that 90mm L'73 as a match to the KwK 43 L'70, yeah, but the Super-Pershing wasn't really intended as a counter to anything in and of itself.

Interesting story about the one super Pershing in Europe. http://www.3ad.com/history/news/super.pershing.1.htm

"In the next instant, Irwin aimed and fired a second time, just as the royal monster was moving forward and raising up over a pile of rubble. The 90mm AP round penetrated the  {{Tiger's underbelly}}, apparently striking the ammo well and resulting in a tremendous explosion that blew its turret loose. With near certainty, the entire crew was killed."

Now, Im just as keen to want to say that the "Super Pershing" with its long-barreled 90mm Cannon would have penetrated the Tiger IIs side armor or even its frontal armor, but seems from how the story is told as if it was a shot like that, please see what is in the Smiley Face's (forgot what those are?), it was still  a shot into the Tigers belly and thus negates the whole intent of this story. A damn M8 could have killed that Tiger with a shot in the same spot : ) Good story though  :salute
