Saw the coolest thing just now
« on: August 17, 2011, 09:59:45 PM »
I was taking my friend home and we were leaving the neighborhood at our exit when a sports bike came through and another one followed from about 200 feet roughly and turned to wide and went into the grass and hit a pile of rocks and dirt and fell on the left side and slid about 20 feet. Me and my friend ran over to see if he was okay and we saw him get off and start using some pretty foul language. About that time his buddy turned around and came to check out what happened and flipped his bike up and turned the engine off. Half of the side panel was ripped from the bolts and the left blinker was torn from the socket and was broken. There were bits and pieces everywhere. We helped out collecting the big parts that came off which was mainly body panel pieces. The guy was okay but terribly shaken, they called their buds and they picked up the rider and swapped out so someone else could take the bike home. Before they left the guy who passed us first joked saying "And this is why you wear a helmet" and he rode off with his buds. I thought it was pretty cool being the first crash I've ever seen in person where the person walked away unscaved. I didn't have my phone on me but tomorrow i'll take pictures of where he ran off the road and if any bits are still in the grass.

I have my motorcycle license and almost bought a 500cc Ninja, then realized I lived in a metropolitan area filled with amateur drivers; not Sebring International Raceway.

Crashes in movies = cool. Real life, they scare the jeebus outta me (only takes one...).  It is good that ya stopped though, too often people drive right past.  Glad he walked away though, bikes + speed + wrong move = nasty sight
Also, depending on the city, they'll likely have it cleaned up by the next day anyways. I know what little broke off in my wreck was cleaned within the hour, they don't like leaving a mess normally.

crashes are only cool if its in a movie. in real life, well, its just plain old scary. if you thought it was cool, you seriously need some help. that guy could have been hurt or killed and you still probably would have thought "ooh a crash! coooool!"

the only cool real life crashes are the demolition derby crashes. maybe you should try that instead.

I only said it was cool because he walked away without a scratch.

Motorcycle crashes are seldom cool, this guy was lucky though.

But I've been up close to a fatal accident once, and that was not a pretty sight. I was driving my car, and the only thing stopping me from seeing what happened was because I had a couple of other cars infront of me. The traffic suddenly stopped, and the reason was a 16year old kid had driven his motorcycle smack into a towtruck that had stopped in the intersection ahead to turn left..  :uhoh

The Ambulance, police and firetrucks came within record time, less than 2minutes because they were located so close. But it was then established that this poor kid had died instantly.. The speed limit at the site was 50, but he might have been faster on his bike. And there was not even as much as a skidmark before he hit the towtruck, so he could not have seen it just standing there..

This is 2years ago, and still to this day the poor kids father comes regularly to the site and places candles and flowers there. Makes me think of how fast lives can change in a blink of an eye, and how little we know ahead of us.  :(

I also think it was cool that the rider walked away unhurt. Would have been very uncool if he hadn't. I'm sure that's what the OP meant.

If there had been injuries I would said something terrible happened in front of me. Nobody got hurt just the bike. Man they were pissed cause they had to explain it to their buds.
