° & §
« on: August 19, 2011, 12:37:48 AM »
There is no sight for degrees (°) and parts (§) on the keyboard, and every time you want to type it you have to google for it than copy & paste. So I'm thinking it would be so much easier if it worked like a smiley, have all available signs on the top of the typing screen and when you want to use one you just click on it. We can make the code be ":degree:" or something like that.

You can memorize the extended ASCII code and enter that.

For example, to get "ö" you hold down the alt key and type 0246.

I honestly honestly think that my idea (if implemented) would be used a lot more often, wouldn't you agree?

uhhhh....

§  alt+0067
°  alt+0176

windows provides a character map that shows unicode/ascii that you can either c+p or type in alt+####

so now your choice becomes 90deg(ree) vs 90 alt+0067  and sec. whatever vs alt+0176 whatever

Can you honestly memorize all those numbers?

Can you honestly memorize all those numbers?

allll of the ascii? nooooooo.... but if i commonly used two.. then, sure... and if i couldn't, and didn;t want to be bothered to check the character map/google, then i'd probably make a little text file of my more comonly used ones and save it to my desktop for quick reference.

of course, most poepl these days don't even know what ascii is.  :noid  but some may be aware of alt+#### does funky stuff.

Try this.

Ask some random "youngish" poepl:

A. Do they recognize the word "ascii," written or said? Probably not.
B. Do they know the symbols for either degree or section? Probably at least one or the other.
C. How do you display them in say, notepad? Probably not.
D. Do they know alt+#### does funny characters? Maybe.

For degrees I use a lower case o and the "sup" button above to get: 360o.

Seems simple enough. Shall I say, "Wish Granted"?

I don't even know what the other one is.

That's a good idea, but it works only with degrees.

Well, that solves half your issue.  :aok

Like I said, I don't know what the other symbol is. You're stuck using ascii.

Anyone know how to do a strike through?
