Map Making Tools:An extensive depository of map making assets can be found on this page:
http://www.cadframers.com/ah/map_tools/index.htmlThe above link is a good starting point for folks interested in labeling their own maps. Without going into detail, all of the
assets found in the game are represented in transparent PNG files...such that user could use any back ground color or tile
their heart desires, and label however they see fit.
Just remember that when creating or modifying your own clip maps, they must be exactly 512 x 512 pixels,
and saved in a bitmap format (BMP) with an 8 bit 256 color depth...or the program will puke

The following reprinted from a post to the IJN Scenario Team...Rangoon 09Installation Notes: (and - all about how the clip map system operates)===================
1) Navigate to your aces high directory
2) Make an in place copy of the \maps\ folder; right click copy and paste
3) Copy and paste the included maps folder, into the aces high directory
4) Select yes when prompted to overwrite existing files in the target directory
How the clipboard map system works:
===================================
On a fresh install of Aces High, the maps folder is created with the stock
maps we are all used to seeing. Also included in the folder is a file called
default.lst. When a player goes to ANY terrain, and opens his clipboard maps,
the program first looks for a <terrain name>.lst file that matches the terrain name he
is flying in. If no matching *.lst file is found, the program opens the default.lst
file.
When a player opens clipboard maps and makes a change to A map list by either
adding, deleting, or renaming a map, an *.lst file is created with the terrain
name of the terrain he is when the change was made. The change is recorded in
the new .lst file, and the balance of the default.lst is copied as well.
The *.lst files can be viewed/edited with a text reader such as note pad. They simply
consiste of a list of maps.
<Map Name>,<File Name>.
The typical default file looks like this when you open it up:
-------------------------------------------------------------
City,csmap.bmp
Large Air Field,lfield.bmp
Medium Air Field,mfield.bmp
Port,port.bmp
Small Air Field,sfield.bmp
Town,town.bmp
Vehicle Field,vfield.bmp
Headquarters,hq.bmp
The order of the maps in the list is irrelevant, with the exception that whichever
is listed first, will be the map that opens up when you choose clipboard maps
the first time while in game. The program sorts the maps alphabetically
when it displays the drop down list to you.
The MAXIMUM number of maps that can be included on a list is 20.
I have included a "new_default.lst" file that lists all of the assets typically
found in the online main arenas. If you wish to avoid the hassle of manually
loading up each clip map in game, and want only the relevant maps for normal
online play, rename this file to "default.lst". (see Note below)
I have included a "old_default.lst" file that lists all of the assets typically
found on a terrain that does not have any of the new style strats. To use this
file on such a terrain, simply copy it and rename it to exact name of the
terrain (case sensative). When you fly that terrain the game will only load
the maps that are relevant.
I have included a "both_default.lst" file that lists the entire set. Use this file
for maps that have both types of strats, such as germany terrain.
If at any time you wish to revert to your old map set, simply delete the entire
map directory and rename the copy you made in step 2 above back to "maps".
Note:
===============
Because the game automatically generates a terrain specific *.lst file any time
you edit your clip board maps, the only way to edit your default map listing is
manually with a text editor. In other words, it is impossible from
within the game to edit your default.lst file.
Thus, if you want to have more than the standard 8 files in the default.lst,
you MUST resort to manually editing your file. Please follow the naming
convention of <Map Name>,<File Name>, when editing, or use the listings I
have provided.
In this Release:
================
All strats are included as individual clip maps, including the new style strats
located in the Super City complex found in the main arenas and in some special
event arenas. Each strat map has the number of destroyable objects and guns
noted on it, as well as the indestructable when known.
All of the fields are included and the field assets are labled with numbers
such as F1 and B1 for fighter hanger 1 and bomber hanger 1. Other assets
such as ordinance, fuel and radar are also labeled. When all bombers attacking
a field have consistently marked up maps it vastly increases their effectivness
as a unit:
"Joe take Fighter Hanger 1, Bill Fighter 2, Steve Fighter 3...."
The town map has been labeled to include the number of buildings and guns
found in it.
The Super City strat map has been marked up to include the number of assets
at each targets such as 88 / 6 denoting 88 buildings and 6 guns. Also
marked up are the gun towers and they are broken down by the type of tower:
Large Square, Round and Small Rectangle and number of destroyable guns is
noted in the legend.
A bombing cheat sheet clip map is also included that lists all of the assets
at each type of facility both old and new, as well as a listing of all assets
at each of the field types: Large, Medium, Small, Vehicle and Port
