Midwest Warbirds
« on: August 24, 2011, 10:26:58 PM »
My son and I dropped into the last afternoon of the Midwest Warbirds RC Fly-in this weekend, and I thought I'd share some of the pictures he took.  Not too bad for a 12 yr old with mom's camera!

I heard that there was a P38 there... until it inexplicably fell apart and went flaming into the ground, scattering an unknown frozen mixture everywhere    :bolt:

I was most impressed with the P47 and the F4F.  They looked and flew very realistically.  The 190 and B17 were right up there too, though.  I'm really not interested in F4F's, 190's, or P47's, so that's saying a lot...

I didn't get to see the B17 fly.  We were there just for the last afternoon, so many people had already cleared out with their planes.

The F16 looked pretty good, and there were several other of those noisy hair-dryer jobbies.  They rank about a 1/10 out of 10 on my interest-scale, but my son liked them... They kept coming over the loudspeaker telling us they (jets) were flying in the 170-180mph range, and the part that impressed me there was thinking "That's not too bad, but I do have a little bird at home that can do 100mph faster than that, and my bird can pull far more G's and outmaneuver the snot out of that jet!"

That is about the coolest hobby Ive ever seen. Used to live near a dedicated field where I used to sit for hours with my dog and watch them fly. I couldnt pick a favorite from the pics but the Jug does look great as does the B-17.

f16's are always loud no matter where you are :lol and 170-180 is pretty darn fast for a R/C plane!

Maybe because there is no such thing as a Lockheed 247? there is a Boeing 247 and a Lockheed electra 10, but it appears to be neither. In reality it is a Beechcraft 18, but since its military, that would make it a C-45.

Im about 99.9% on that :)

Thats exactly how the Beech 18 wings come off and if you compare the windows you can see the upper cockpit window modeled in, which the electra doesnt have

It looks great though none the less. Im really liking that Lockheed L-188 Electra II. Thats the first RC of it i have ever seen. Would be really great if they can find four bladed props for it
