Daughter comes to me complaining her laptop keeps freezing and then the screen starts gradually changing color to near whiteout..
when she brought it in I see she had a regestry mechanic popup on her screen that I know I didnt install and she claims she didnt.
thinking she might have some sort of bug or maleware I tried restarting in safe mode but with the same results. and couldnt even get safe mode to start before locking up and the screen changing
Im thinking maybe heat related? As while we got her a chill mat she admitted she doesnt often use it yet over the summer she is constantly on it. And I do mean constantly.
Opened up the inside and saw no dust or other nasties I would normally relate to heat and found nothing
thoughts? before I run this thing to best buy.
I dont know for laptops
Sounds like its dying. Laptops can overheat nastily if they're not ventilated well and typically with some vibration added, this leads to solderings breaking off. Most components are surface soldered so you don't even see anything is wrong. Some people have rescued busted motherboards like this by cooking it in the oven for some time.
The solder used in the surface solder joints melts enough to reconnect the components. But this method is a hit and miss, some people overcooked and had their components drop off instead of reattached

I have a busted macbook pro with almost similar problem (display died totally) which I'm going to try to rescue using a hot air gun.
