Need a decent inexpensive Motherboard
« on: August 26, 2011, 05:43:28 PM »
I'm building an inexpensive computer for my daughter using an AMD duel core. What I need is an expensive MB that will handle 5.1 surround sound. It would have to be AM3. I just sent back an Gigabyte board and was looking at MSI. I would like to keep it under $100 bucks.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Actually I like gigabyte and asus. The next board I buy will be either Asus or Gigabyte. Even the best brands of choice have lemons though.

Heya Getback,

here is one of the newest AMD AM3+/AM3  Motherboards out that has one of the highest/top  NB chip & SB chip available...... made by ASUS

ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767

and it falls right under $100 dollars ( not including shipping )  it is $99.99  shipping is $7.56
( unless you are a member of that ShopRunner  FREE 2 day shipping ..... you can join it for 30 days free and take full advantage of it , cancel it before your 30 days are up and pay nothing )

In my opinion, this is one of your best bets as for being able to continue upgrading in the future for a good long time....... ( can use your dual core AMD AM3 cpu now. and purchase yourself an AM3+ Bulldozer cpu down the road when the prices come down some )

hope this helps

wow, nice mobo...i was going to ask if it supports the 45nm amd cpu's but according to the cpu compatibility list:

http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A97/#specifications

looks like it does...very cool.

:cry  that sucks for me though, the asus m4a89td pro just got to a price i like, and now looking at that asus sabertooth 990fx mobo i'm  :headscratch:

guess i'm just going to have to stick with the m4a89td pro...for $155 and free shipping and looking at the specs on the chipsets, it will do what i want it to without pushing me over budget.

This board is awesome. Finished the build this a.m. Even has an auto-overclocking built into the bios. I don't think I will go there, well maybe. It's for my daughter. I haven't told her yet it's done because I want to test it for a couple of days. She's picky as all get-out. The only issue I had was installing XP. As it turns out you have to press f6 and then load the MB drivers. Instead i called Microsoft and told them my dilemma. They assisted me quite well and gave me a new product key so I could just load W7.

I think my daughter will be astounded!

Unless she's a computer geek I wouldn't bet on that.  More likely she'll just be happy she has something that works.
