I downloaded the game and then read this thread. Seeing the word 'grind' completely destroyed it for me and I never went online.

How bad of a grind is it?

It's only a bad grind if you let it bother you. Once you hit Tier 5 it becomes a lot more fun. Or you could whip out 5 bucks and buy a T14. They aren't GREAT but they're decent money makers and good experience makers.
Like, ya know, when that thing that makes you move, it has pistons and things, When your thingamajigy is providing power, you do not hear other peoples thingamajig when they are providing power.

If you're like me and play about 5 games a day, it takes about a week to buy a fully upgraded Tier 3 Tank. Tier 5 takes 2 weeks. Tier 6-10 is going to be months.

You have to grind TWO things. Money AND Experience. Also note that from Tier 5-8, you are matched horribly against either MUCH stronger tanks (likely) or completely faceroll the other team (unlikely). Prime example is the German TD Hetzer going up against tanks it can't even track.

It's fun if you play it every now and then, but to sit there and grind....God it's a nightmare.

Of course, buying stuff using real life money makes it 100x easier.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Yep, like I posted before, I got up to Tier 6 (7? I forgot) with the German TDs. It was easy enough with the free gold they gave out during beta, you really didn't have to worry about money, only experience. Without gold, you might unlock tanks 2 Tiers above but not have enough money to advance to it. The grind is just horrendous in this game.

I can tell you this though, if you decide to go down the German TD tree, the Marder II, and the Stug III are some of the best fun youll ever have.

im working on the german heavy lines right now, and i gotta say the VK-3601 is more of a grind than anything. when i had my tigers in beta i made creds off them. i only used gold to buy premium so id get thru xp faster. the StuG and jagdtiger are the funnest TD's ever in that game :D

I honestly think the designers put certain tanks down the tech tree to make us all grind for it. The GOOD tanks are spaced out between long painful grinds to make us want to play more.

Which brings me to another point. After beta ended, the developers put out a contest to see who would hit Tier 10 first. I was AMAZED at the speed of which some guys got there. It took me 3 months WITH gold just to hit Tier 6/7. These guys did it to 10 in a month. Makes me wonder if they sat there 24/7 or had mutiple people on one account.

Its not that bad if you don't let it worry you. Just fight other tanks and let the grind take care of itself. Some of the best fun is running around in T1 and T2 battles in an MS-1 or a BT-2.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

If you dont want to spend a lot of time grinding, research and elite the marder II. Best tank for its tier by a long way, always earns xp and creds. If matchmaker screws you at its worst, you will be able to put the hurt on anything that shows its face.

I don't think its that bad.  Early on is really quick to go from one tank to the other.  At higher levels, there is more of a grind involved, but if you work with teammates it can be rather fun.  One way I look at it is that luckily, by the time I have enough xp and credits to buy the next tier vehicle, my crew is well trained, and I've learned a lot more about how to employ it, and how to work the maps effectively.  I'll caveat that by saying I haven't gone past tier 7 in anything.

I really do not look at it as a grind either.  I am simply having fun and building experience in a crew I am going to move to a new tank.  Right now, we are having a blast with the guys we have from AH in our clan and are becoming more and more competitive everyday.  Last night we made it to the territory battle after a tough tournament.  Everyone involved had an absolute blast, not to mention we got to really stick it to a known group of crap talkers.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.
