Arena reset in AvA
« on: August 27, 2011, 02:54:11 PM »
I wish that if it is not too hard to do, that the AvA arena would automatically reset when one side captures all the opposition bases

You mean it doesn't?

I'm thinking it's a bug than, because it should.

It's an arena setting where you can set "war-win map reset" parameters. Problem is, the AvA uses custom maps with custom settings, and they have no control over what the new map will be after an automatic reset. So, I'm guessing their solution is to make it so it won't automatically reset.

Right, but instead of starting to plan the next map when the first one finishes we can just do all the planing while the war is still going on. That way it would just reset automatically.

...that you don't want any more updates?  ;)

Seriously though why not? I don't really use AvA but I still think it's a good idea.

The problem is that we don't have the ability to choose an ordered list of terrains for rotation. We also don't have a way to attach tables with custom plane sets and settings that will hold through a reset

The "win the war reset" mechanism is based on the 3 country MA type of set up where random country placement and terrain selection isn't a big concern.

No way to make it work for us.

if it were possible for the ava to automatically load a terrain in a queue with the proper plane sets and active bases then the admins would have it set up to do so, but it can't. everything has to be done manually just like the special events arenas, and htc isn't going to put it on a separate piece of hardware and change the coding so it will run automatically with different defaults than the other arenas.

depending on the setup there can be 30-40 people in there from 7-10 eastern time.

That's part of it.

It's difficult to run something with a strategic point, when there is no automatic reward for reaching goals.

IL2/hyperlobby has more online game play options.

They can set up different victory triggers that automatically change the map and mission.

They have several historically based rooms that each have 20 to 50 players in them at almost any time of the day, always equaling or exceeding any Spit vs Spit, Corsair vs Mustang type rooms there.

Who knows why an AvA type environment is much more popular there than here?

It could be because they do have automatic win the battle objectives and it could be just a different culture that has developed within the community.

Perhaps in AH, people have learned to think of historical setups only as "special events" and not a daily game play option.
