Operation Fortitude Armor in AH???
« on: August 27, 2011, 08:08:14 PM »
Well, after having a pretty good time at a spawn today and hearing more than just a few gripes concerning this I decided to bring this up. This has been happening more and more last few days and today finally made me want to say something to see if this is a growing concern. While engaged in a GV battle today in my T34/85, not only once but 4 times I had the pleasure of firing an HVAP round at less than 500 yards at a few different Tanks and watching the round hit and end up exploding on the ground behind the tank I was firing at. The hit sprite wasnt your normal large sprite but a tiny ping and then wham, one dead piece of sod. This happned to me after firing at an M4 twice, Panzer, and a T34. I also heard a few other guys on range mention having similar experiences as well as mentioning other "wierd" things happening. Has anyone else noticed this being more prevelant lately and if so what do you think could be the reasoning behind it?

Anything else other than HVAP rounds passing through tanks?

Those small sprites are bounces. Your round ricocheted off the enemy tank and into the ground.

mine were the big ones. i smacked a panzer right in the arse with my t34 and got a big hit sprite but the round still went thru and hit the ground.

There are times too when the round is completely absorbed by the armor.  There is more than one picture of a Tiger tank with large pockets of armor missing but yet no complete penetration though.

The only truely odd thing I've had happen to me was have a Panzer take multiple tiger rounds to the side and rear at less than 10m, and then multiple Panther rounds to the front, turret, sides, and rear.

Only got the kill when he towered out after we killed M3 at troops his base. I have no doubt that if he had gotten supplys, both the panther and I would have been one-shotted.

I've seen rounds that look to be passing through tanks, but upon close inspection of the film, I saw that I was  shooting too low and having my rounds pass under him (the only time I've expierenced this is when my target is slightly higer than me, which supports my theory that I've never had a round pass through someone without getting a hitsprite)

However I have been on the other end of this.  A Tiger I came up to me and started pumping shells into my T-34/76. After at least 5 rounds, he started circling around to put one on my engine decking (I was tracked, and this was back when tracking caused your vehicle to tip toward the damaged track) and I one-shotted him as he pulled across my line of fire with an HVAP round. So I do admit strange things do happen, but I don't think it happens often enough that people can develop a pattern as to which vehicles are particularly aflicted.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

You mean iut riccochet'd THROUGH the Tank and hit the ground??? Thats what this is about, if it Ric's then that would make it go in any other direction, but...the round would hit, little sprite and explode right on the other side of the tank as if the ROUND WENT STRAIGHT THRPOUGH the tank!

There's always a combination of things, rubber bullets to internet lag to the computer sucking. I would need some films to really identify the problems, I would guess if you are bouncing rounds off tanks at 500yards its probably the location you are shooting, I seen some of your films before and you had some issues aiming at 1k, most either bounced or were close - it really depends the location where you hit a tank, I've had rounds bounce off turrets at 400 yards because people will swing the turret and my shells glaze off it, doesn't mean there is something wrong in game.

It takes months and hours on end to get the aiming down right, 1 foot to the left/right/up/down can mean a kill shot/deflection/track hit, only which one of these will kill a tank most that complain about this really are hitting tracks instead of hulls, or glazing the side of tank, rather then a dead kill shot.

Red, if you are TOO close to the tank while firing AP rounds at a high velocity the round will fly straight through the tank altogether. this is why tigers and KTs sometimes have trouble at extreme close ranges against some tanks also. the T34 HVAP round is meant for 700 yards to an extreme effective range of 1,300 yards max. too close it'll fly through, too far it'll ricochet. but this accompanies the larger hit sprite and not the ricochet sprite that you have described. aka you are ricocheting your rounds and just looks like theyre going through
