Dedicated Tanking Arena in AH2
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:30:35 PM »
Yesterday I gave world of tanks a try for the first time and noticed a few thing's they are doing that we could do here for more overall tank enjoyment.

First off let me say I hope AH's tank fights never become exactly like WOT.
Wot had 6,000 players on yesterday, think about that kind of battle.

First we could create a tank only area like WW1 arena and call it something like Tank Wars.
In this arena we could have 1 map to begin with that has all the little tanking goodies, towns, burnt out towns with debris fields, bridges (not so many restrictions on what goes in as long as each side has fair terrain)

If possible see if we could make detroyable objects and soft objects like small trees and bushes able to be driven through.
No airplanes whatsoever or only scouting planes, but they would have to fly through puffy ack to do so.
Only 2 sides and MA perks don't carry over so everyone starts out on an equal playing field.

There could be a set time every day where an objective is given such as capture the flag game starts at 6pm till 9PM
If any AVA map creators cared to try to create a fun map would be nice.

No drive times longer than 2 minutes to reach action/instant fun.
I think if we took alot of the WOT aspects and put them into an AH platform without the "WOW" lameness and no skill needed point click and pray random penetration stuff....we could have a greater tank game.

As of now tanking is fun but we never see large battles in MA due to ,bombs, long drives, and generally stag net terrain.

Yeh or Neh?

+/- 1. I think it wouldn't see much action except from the really dedicated GV'ers. If theres no real goal to generate fights, people won't leave the MA.

Then why are there so many people playing WOT?  There is no goal there except to grind your way to a good tank.

Let me see.... well, it is called Ace's High

Quote
Aces High takes the art and science of vintage WW1 and WW2 air combat and sets it in a high intensity online multiplayer environment.  Hundreds of players simultaneously battle it out against each other in massive aerial dogfights and bomber raids.

As this is an air combat game first I would like to see them devote their time to bringing us more planes or revamping the current ones. Wouldnt mind seeing a new map or two or even coming up with a new strat and capture system.

Straight from the homepage.

Aces High takes the art and science of vintage WW1 and WW2 air combat and sets it in a high intensity online multiplayer environment. Hundreds of players simultaneously battle it out against each other in massive aerial dogfights and bomber raids.

High fidelity flight simulation is the heart of Aces High but it doesn't end there. A war rages on the ground and at sea. Engage enemy armor in tank combat. Protect your fleet as a gunner or make a torpedo run in a PT boat. Lead an assault in an amphibious vehicle. With over 100 warbirds, vehicles, and boats available, you have access to a vast virtual arsenal.

Take part in special events such as historical scenarios where famous battles are recreated and reimagined or try your hand at air racing at tree top level against skilled competitors.

In the air, on land, and at sea, the battle rages 24 hours a day with participants from around the world. Take our free two week trial and find out why Aces High is the online game for you.

Personally, I didn't come here to drive GV's around, so to be selfish, No.

Do people play World of Tanks to fly airplanes around?

We have them because people thought "hey, it would be great if we could have tank fights in here too!". They didn't come here thinking that this was the place to be for ground combat.

All the usual silly it's called "Aces High" comments aside the GV game in AH is important to me.  However history has shown that specialized arenas do not pull the numbers.  I have no reason to believe that a GV only arena would be any different.  So a better solution to stimulate the ground game is needed.

+1 on all that.

I would like to see more areas in the MA maps that promote ground battles and make it harder to bomb them in those areas. Maybe some very low level dense cloud cover, say 1k???

I think we should get rid of the Wirbelwind.  That would really help with the bombing problem.   :)

AH could never compete with WoT head to head.  Totally different game genre.  But I dont think HTC wants to compete H2H with WoT anyway.....  What AH should do is pull the good ideas and try to create more new ones.  They have obviously pulled some good ideas, and the exterior tank art in AH is, imo, superior to the art in WoT.  Also, AH provides turret rotation sounds and that gets a big plus from me (adding a gun elevation gear munching sound would top it off nicely for me in that regard).

What I would like to see, and where AH could really improve, is with the terrain and the interaction of the terrain with the vehicle. Terrain that folds, dips and rises in a more realistic manner is really sorely needed...as well as objects that provide a more believable collision event.  Also, add some shake to the tank like we get in the cockpits (especially when a round impacts).  That would be a nice add as well.

I used to dislike how the airplane weapons ballistics translated down into the heavy caliber tank gun ballistics, but I suspect HTC has that area down a lot better than I originally felt about it.
