Drifting. in my opinion the best way to show your skills in driving, controling the car in a situation that would mostly kill you.

All types of situations in driving can kill you.

In my opinion it is only one of the ways you can show off talent, it is just like some other guys here who talk about the 1/4 mile drag like it is the deciding factor in cars and drivers. It is not. It is the total understanding and skill of getting the car to do the things you need it to do, even if it wasn't made for it. This includes ALL types of racing, and IMHO, the Nurburging track is best way to show your skills in driving. This track will test you in all areas of driving.

x2. Those guys in WRC are completely insane. The only ones crazier than the ones behind the wheel are the ones in the track for the "last possible second" photo op   :O

the japanese call it drifting, in the 70s we called it driving...easier with rear wheel drive than front wheel, all you have to do is learn to keep it between the ditches.

As a testament to the difficulty of rallying, take Ken Block.

He has impressed people all over the world with his Gymkana stunt driving/drifitng videos, and yet check out his record (including number of crashes) in WRC.

This is what I think of drifting as it is defined today.

Or maybe this.....

If you're going less than 90mph when you do it, then you might as well just drive around a front wheel drive car with the rear wheels locked up.

Drifting -1

Does it take skill, sure. Does it even come close to Ralley, F1 or Touring cars?  Nope!
