could use a bit of help
« on: September 03, 2011, 10:39:14 PM »
Got my permit on January 5, 2011. Will I be able to apply for it on sept 6th or oct 5th? I have no idea if january counts as 1 month. In my head I believe sept 6th will be the day because it exceeds 9 months. 9 months and one day.(I must have a permit for a min of 9 months before applying for a license.) <---- been bothering me for a while now. If its oct 5th please explain to me in full detail why it would be oct 5th.

I assume you mean driving permit?
That would depend on what state your in.

I don't really know anything about Illinois' laws, never lived there. Try calling DMV, they should be able to answer all your questions.

They should, but will they?

It's worth a try.

Or don't call, better yet- Look in your State's Driver's Handbook!
I was licensed at 16. 1976. Back then you could get Permit at 15,
take a Driver's Ed class for 30 bucks. You had to have Permit for 3 months.
Believe me, the thrill of driving will wear off, and get old.
Especially when you have to do it for a living (drove Tractor/Trailer for several yrs.)

You don't get a 1 month credit for the day you got your permit ... so it is not until Feb 5th that a full month has past.

January doesn't get blown off, and you are not eligible until October, which will be nine months.

January 5th to February 5th = 1
Feb 5th to March 5th = 2
Mar to Apr= 3
Apr to May=4
May to Jun=5
Jun to jul=6
Jul to aug= 7
Aug to sept=8
Sept to Oct =9

You must complete a full 9 months. So you must complete the month of September to make the nine months, which puts your date into October.

Drive Safe!

cheers,
