DogTown have you tried running a pingplot yet?? you can get it free here and run to IP address

Axis vs Allies, Dueling, Early, Mid: 206.16.60.39
All WW1 Dogfight Arenas, Training, Late War: 206.16.60.41
Special Events: 206.16.60.38
Custom Arenas: 96.226.224.166

http://www.pingplotter.com/

Run the pingplotter to those ips and post the results here and Skuzzy or someone might be able to help you.

Quick question do you have a 10/100 card installed seperatly for internet connection???? similar to this one???

If you heard a "click' noise...that is a bad thing...you may need to get a new one.

fication from Clara first.
CPU= the actual microprocessor chip or brain of the computer
Computer- the hole 'box' that everything is inside of.

When describing problems or technical issues its sort of important to use the correct terminology and avoid confusion.

My reply wasn't mean it was meant to clarify things so you can get help.
For example:
need help please cant stay connected to internet for more than a few minutes...cable guys redid everything and checked it three times...everything points to my cpu...scanners say no virus....maybe internet card...but im told they either work or dont......i know this is not game related but could use some opinions....ty
"everything points to my cpu." What exactly is everything and how did you narrow it down to the cpu chip?

what would cause me to have internet connection for only a few minutes??? if i shut the cpu down it will give me connection for a few minutes then poof...Please help
I've never seen a computer where you can "shut the cpu down" and it will still "give me connection".

With the replies given people are trying to help but again it helps to be specific and accurate so they can give good tips to help you.

in dogtown's case i believe the term "cpu" is in reference to the case which houses the main internal components of a personal computer, it's a common mistake in terminology for people who really do not understand computers. some people even refer to it as the "hard drive".

dogtown, what is being suspected to be the problem is the nic (network interface card) or lan (local area network) port. in the case of you system it's a built in module/chip on the motherboard of your computer rather than an expansion card like the one ebfd11 posted a pic of. i doubt that you were able to "wiggle" that little chip, more likely it was the network cable, the one that connects the computer to the cable modem, that you wiggled and heard click since it has a plastic connector with a clip on the end to lock it in place. and regardless of what you were told by whomever, network cards can operate sporadically just like any other electronic component. a bent/broken contact, corrosion, dust, loose/broken solder connection, etc... can cause issues.

you say the "cable guys" redid everything, did you or the "cable guys" replace the network cable? it's the cable that connects your pc to the modem... do you have a router between your computer and the modem? what have you been using to get on the internet and post here? do you have other computers in your house that are in use?

OK..ty sir...yes i am speaking about the computer...BrightHouse also replaced the modem and the the network cable ...i dont have a router at the house (i'm at my girlfriends house now ) I only have the one computer at the house. The cable guys say they see me connected too...i hooked up a friends lab top at my house and there was no issues. I opened my computer to see if I had nic and did not have one but where my lan port is i saw a little metal box and wiggled it...now i understand it must be intergraded to the motherboard.....so i assume i have a bad contact there. Can i add a nic to see if it will solve this problem?

Again ty for the help and sorry for the confusing vocabulary but as i read back to my earlier post .....errr nm

:huh  if it wiggles, it's broken...

ok, if you have an open pci expansion slot on your motherboard, you can put a nic/lan card in it. the pci slot(s) should be white.

you will need to remove the little steel expansion bay port cover screwed to the back of the case.

they will each be individually screwed in

or have a clamp on the back of the case like this

i'd go with ether this linksys

or this netgear

and I would recommend you buying from Newegg instead of tigerdirect, since you live in florida.......  so you can avoid paying the extra sales tax that tiger direct will charge you  :aok ( since they have an office located in FL )
