17 LB'er shot
« on: September 06, 2011, 09:05:19 AM »
Now I'm not very good in these or tanks or shore batteries etc.

I was goofing around looking for some action in the north when I spotted a full herd of Rooks heading to v-base 140. Now that base has almost no useful purpose except fun. You can't spawn out of it or into it except by PT boat. Still I thought it would be fun to head there and do a little werbling. Here they come with a about 4 sets of lancs and just blowing the crap out of everything including me. So I look to see if there's a manned gun available. Well there was but it was a 17 lber. So I jump in it and take a look around. Across the channel I spot a landed goon. It was way way off. Will the 17 lber reach it. I lift the big gun up to almost the bottom of the scope. The rascal hits the other shore. The shell looked to hit close. Then I raise it more and more. After about 6 to 8 rounds I wondering when will one of the cons take me out. They fly over me but no one guns the thing down.

Still after raising it past the bottom of the scope I'm short. So I lift it past the target and hit the side of the mountain way above the goon. Then I decide I would aim it at a marker on the mountain. This being a ridge. Well that was very very close but short. So I raise it just past the ridge to a white spot on the mountain. That was too long and again hit the side of the mountain. It must be somewhere in between. So I judge the half way point and let it rip.......Boom. Hit the left wing of the goon. Now it didn't explode. The wing fell off and the goon just collapsed. The left wing broke off and then the right wing broke off, the gear crumpled and the tail fell off but no explosion. I had to laugh out loud that was amazing. I did get the kill. Obviously that plane wasn't flying anywhere so the guy ended flight. Of course "Now" they came to kill the gun after I had fired about 20 rounds.  :rofl :rofl :rofl

What, no PM accusations of being a cheat, haxxor or spy for finding the goon across the channel?  :D

Nah, I ignore those folks anyway. I imagine he was yelling at his countrymen. Still he was so far away I doubt if they saw his icon. I only spotted him because the he was a dark spot on the landscape and then zoomed in.

I jumped into a 17lber as a VH was being porked.  The VHs were down and so were the 37mm, so it was all
that was left.  My first shot from a 17lb AT gun took off a 110G's wing.  I don't know who was more surprised as
I am certainly no expert marksman  :lol

I'm generally a decent shot in a tank/gun - nothing special and nothing amazing - however I did enjoy a recent lecture from a "veteran player" of the Aces High community that says in no way can a tank fire straight up at 1.4k and hit a diving P47.

If there's a hill around, consider a tank mobile anti aircraft if he climbs that hill slightly :)

Over a year ago I shot and killed a B17 from 2.5K away in a T34-85 I have the film on one of my computers so I'll try to find it and post it. It was probably the best shot I've ever made lol

I once shot a tree that was attacking at close quarters.

I also disabled an enemy tank that was sitting with the hatch open by standing on their turret and shooting inside with my short barrel.
I was able to gain relief and increase their angst. Do not drink a lot of beer while couped up in a tank.
