This week in the AvA- The sky over Leningrad 1942-1943
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:42:31 PM »
Imagine if you will, stepping back in time..

The place… Leningrad.. The time.. The months between 1942-1943. The below set up represents a condensed glimpse of
The Siege of Leningrad
In a pre-arranged move Finland declared war on Russia and, using German equipment, attacked from the north. They were looking to avenge the Winter War and “teach the Russkis a lesson.A massive German army approached Leningrad from the south-west while the Finnish army approached from the north. By early November Leningrad was completely surrounded and cut-off from the rest of Russia.

I'm pretty sure the Finns only sent in thier volunteer Waffen SS Brigade to Leningrad, as it was under German command. The rest of the Finnish didn't go beyond the land they they lost in the Winter war.
Had they not stopped at Karelia and gone into Leningrad to support the Germans, they would've looked like Nazi collaborators and aggressors. Losing the ability to say they only fought a defensive war against Russia. Meaning that Russia would've not given them a peace treaty allowing them to keep their democracy, most likely being swallowed into the Soviet Union after the war.

Would the Finns not have still been using the B-239 in 1942?

See bottom line in OP.

I'm pretty sure the Finns only sent in thier volunteer Waffen SS Brigade to Leningrad, as it was under German command. The rest of the Finnish didn't go beyond the land they they lost in the Winter war.

No such thing as a Finnish SS brigade and no units under German control were at the front on the Karelian Isthmus.

There were a Finnish SS battalion, but it was fighting in southern Russia. The German units in Finland were fighting in the North near Petsamo and Murmansk.

It's settings like this where the Fiat G-50, MiG and LaGG-3 would be fun to have.

Good stuff, I'll definitely hop on there.
