Getting rid of skunks
« on: September 09, 2011, 07:29:36 PM »
A friend of mine has a skunk problem.  His dog has been sprayed 3 times in the last couple weeks.  Over his back fence is a nice golf course.  He doesn't want to use a gun, considering the area.  Anyone with a good idea of getting rid of it?

Soft-air air pellet guns work just as good as a regular gun if you only want to deter them away from your house. Another way is use capsasin spray such as this
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100549772&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=100549772&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D28X-_-100549772&locStoreNum=4113

Both humane and works great.

The dog is a big German Shepard about 2 years old.

Well I just about nailed one going 98mph in my 79 firebird...  But some how I think maybe a large truck would be better suited for the task.  :D

Live traps with cat food and a .22 in the morning.  If noise is an issue, use subsonic ammunition.  You'll need to cycle the action of a semi auto but it will work great in a revolver.

If you dont have an animal control to call, and you are NOT in the city limits, and you are BRAVE, and you KNOW your neighbors (talk to them prior to doing the deed), then the .22 Short from a rifle will do wonders.

Trap them as mentioned above.  Make sure your "kill shot" gets the head and not their back end!!!  Be quick with it and get it into a garbage bag ASAP and tied tight in case the glands release some stink.
