Wow, your firearms laws ARE a bit extreme... ( i was just reading about them)

Yes, being a law abiding citizen in Illinois is punished.  Once the kids are grown and out of the house, we may move North into Wisconsin.  My family owns 20 acres on a lake in the North woods.  I would love to put another small house up there for my wife and I.  All the hunting and fishing a guy can stand right out the back door.

A .380 is certainly not a man-stopper, but when loaded with hollow-points, it is plenty to make someone reconsider the course of action they were previously contemplating with regard to violating my wife's safety  :devil

Sorry, Had to  :devil

Planning on getting an original M1911 as soon as possible (21, living in California). Got a .22 target rifle from my childhood friend when he left for the army, he got it from his Israeli grandfather. The thing has such a light trigger, either that or I have heavy hands, but for me it fires if I so much as barely touch the trigger. Also, another friend of mine has a rifle his old man used in the Biathlon at the Olympics in Lake Placid. Love how the bolt works on the Biathlon rifles.

If you are looking for a new M1911-A1, I highly recommend the Rock Island Armory pistols.  I have the full size Government and the smaller Officer's size.  Both are great shooters, and inexpensive too.

Going to be hella expensive though. Oh well, piece of history is worth it.

True Damascus steel has not been reproduced since the 1700's so it is more likely forged crucible or pattern welded steel (which is still a hot, loud and laborious job) :P

Hand-forged, hand-hammered, folded, hammered, folded, etc...

Not true damascus, I think he started with a piece of cable.

I have a different knife that's pattern-welded.  Nice looking too, but not fancy or nearly as large (3" blade?).  I use it as a hunting knife.

For the gun owner IL. sucks. The State is ran by hacks who are masters of blaming their own policy failures for crime on guns. In Chicago citizens only recently gained the right to even own a handgun for the home, but even then the city put up as many restrictions to limit legal gun ownership as they can.

I look back at my career and think of so many of the victims who could have stopped a serious crime against themselves had they just been armed. The really sad part is most have been brainwashed against guns and wouldnt have had one with them anyways even if they could. Im talking armed robberys here, rapes, Homocide, serious Battery, Home Invasion, Kidnapping, or just plain getting shot at.

Im a Policeman so I carry 24/7. The Ruger LCP is one of the many tools I use. I have always backed citizen carry everywhere as a matter of Constitutionality.

  Mtnman,

Was the blade differential tempered? Or was it tempered as  single piece,if thats the correct term?

I've got quite a few rifles and pistols, but the one with the most historical significance is my 1916 Enfield SMLE, which served with the Australian Light Horse, 4th Brigade in Palestine. I can trace it to a specific soldier, who died, ironically, by being run over by a lorry after the armistice....

Is there a way you can trace it by serial number? Cause I'd like to know the origin of mine, and IIRC, when I tried it before, I couldn't find anything about it.
No one knows what the future may bring.

Amen.

It's just a matter of time here.  The pro-CCW folks in the State Congress have been getting stronger.  It'll happen eventually.  I'll be the first guy in line.
