anti virus

I am thinking of letting my eset subscription expire and replace with ms security essentials.  what are your thoughts.  I am pretty much safe conscious.  i use firefox with adblock, better privacy, ghostery, noscrip and wot.

I dont watch pron or just go websurfing on sights I dont trust.  and If i am checking out some sites then I use sandiebox.  I mostly use my puter to pay my bills, play ah and make movies.  also watch youtube, hulu, netflix and some major network sites.  I dont open emails with attachements from anybody and If I do, they're always open on sandiebox first.

Since no antivirus is 100% safe, you can save your money and use MSE. Your seem to use many more security tools than I do, and yet I believe my computer is clean despite having three other users. Your surfing habits prove what has been told a gazillion times: common sense is the best antivirus. You can't be the millionth visitor on a certain site every time, your browser doesn't have the tools to tell you your antivirus has been compromised, some Nigerian prince doesn't need your help to get his heritage, unknown people don't send you email telling where to get viagra or rolex copies or education diplomas... So feel free to take the leap, MSE can handle known viruses as well as any paid av. For additional safety you can run an online av scan (eset has one, too) every now and then to check if the one you're using has somehow failed.

personally I would stay with ESET  NOD32  or Smart Security ( I use Smart Security, myself ).......... it is double  rubberin so to speak

for my DL-4500 Router has a Hardwire Fire Wall and I am completely invisible to the world wide web........ and as Bizman points out.... most times viruses have to do with browsing and email habits

but there are more and more "drive by attacks" happening everyday by Flash Player, Java(script), etc..... that people can easily get a virus/trojan/malware without ever clicking on any picture, link, etc.....

anyway......  ESET has been offering NOD32 & Smart Security very cheap lately over on NewEgg  the original $89.00 3 user cost for ESET SS4 has been going for $29.99 for last couple of months....... with NOD32 going for $27.95  for the 3 user / 1 year sub........

oh yes, is a great idea...... but you know 99.9% will never go for that......... they need their facebook, twitter, Pogo, Steam, EA, etc....... <GRIN>

i cannot and have not...much of what i have to deal with at work requires the functionality of one or both, haven't had an issue in 7 years.

I've used MSE since it came out and have never had a single issue and I watch a lot of pron. Bizman is right about the commonsense thing. I just never click on pop ups or visit any new pron sites I havent heard of or been recommened to.

You can always enable the functions for only the sites you need for work. When I browse the general internet I never have flash or javascript enabled. If a site won't open without them tough luck I won't go there.

MSE and Malwarebytes Antimalware free version are a good combo.

Avast Antivirus. Free, easy, no annoying pop up warning, or ads saying you should buy the full version. Once you install it, you're safe 99% of the time. I've had a couple of virus/trojan attempts on PC while surfing the net, all were detected and blocked. I didn't even have to press the "remove" button.

MSE came with my mobo or windows 7 I believe. Didn't know anythjng about its reputation or reliability though when I built... didn't install it ultimately. I haven't had an issue with my machine, but after seeing al the hype about it on here where can I go to get it?

Thanks wurzel. Can I run that with avast! Or would it cause issues as per the norm when there are 2 av's running on the same machone?

I wouldnt personally - 1 av can cause issues as Gyrene detailed - just run 1 av, and do a malware scan weekly (thats what I do and not had any problems so far)
