There is no vehicle inspection here in SC. just like any other law, if there is no means of enforcement, the law isn't worth the paper it's written on, in practical terms. If they ever change that here in SC and go back to vehicle inspections and emmission testing, I'll worry about it.

Anyone who really knows their way aound the inside of the engine management computer, fuel curves, and tuning can easiy squeeze more hp and torque out of a car (at least chevy LS motors) without cats as opposed to even premium hi-flow cats. My engine guy that did the tuning on my '99 Vette for got over 550 very streetable hp out of my stock bottom end with no cats and it passed the sniffer test.... it's all in the tune and the guy setting it up. The Corvette has 4 O2 sensors too, two upstream and 2 downstream. A set of resistors fooled the ecu into thinking the downsream ones were reporting normal numbers, so no codes. The only way you'd know the cats weren't there, other thn visual inspection, was the car was LOUD with the Corsa stainless mufflers, coupled with the LG Motorsports long-tube headers and x-pipe, so loud we had to go back to Z06 titanium mufflers to quiet it down to the point that it didn't sound like NASCAR coming down main street.

If you don't see improved performance in every category from the removal of the cats, including mileage, you have the wrong guy doing your dyno tuning. Simple as that.

here's something to bear in mind. there is no inspection.....that doesn't make it legal. what will happen when caught at a roadside check, and the lack of cats are discovered? is it still unenforceable?

and just because it passes a sniffer, i can guarantee you that a good tech will see readings, pass or fail, and be able to tell presence of a cat underneath. all ya need is a good 5 gas analyzer.

and note my previous post, wrx 540hp to the tires(confirmed on dyno), with all emissions controls in place, and functioning.

with todays technology, i really can't believe there's still this many people out there that are seemingly stupid enough to actually believe that they need to remove this stuff.....or worse, to think they'll get away with it forever.

No codes, No check engine light. The computer has been properly tuned. in fact to run the tune that I have and the boost settings I have, according to the manufactor (Revo), I have to have the "Cat eliminator downpipe"  I dont know why i'm not the mechanic just the driver.

(Image removed from quote.)

Acording to the guys that built the car, who seem to really know what they are talking about, there is a difference ON THIS CAR between having them and not. I've seen American muscle where I agree 100% a good set of flow through cats are highly effective.

1.8t is completely different engine. not even the same block.

See in that image where it says "Test Pipe"?  That means it is only allowed to be installed for testing purposes ONLY.  In other words if a tech suspects the cat as being a problem they can install that test pipe and drive it temporarily to see if the problem has been corrected.  There are special provisions in the EPA regulations for a licensed tech to operate a vehicle with a test pipe installed in lieu of a converter for diagnostic purposes only.  That is why it SPECIFICALLY says "test pipe".

I don't really care what you do it's just important that you understand the just because other people are doing it and just because there are no inspections doesn't make it any more legal.  There is a saying, "Just because you can doesn't necessarily mean that you should" that people have forgotten about of the last several years.  I get ticked off every time I see someone fly past me doing about 70mph in a 40mph zone.  I get ticked off every time I see someone run a red light or illegally pass me on the wrong side of the road.  This type of behavior seems to be getting more and more popular because cops simply don't give a hoot about it anymore.  They are too busy relying on other companies to operate red light cameras or radar cameras to care about enforcing the other rules of the road.  But does this mean that the other cars are allowed to do that?  NOPE.

I was visiting Florida a few months ago with my G/F (who is from there) and we met up with an old friend of hers.  This woman was 30 years old and drove her Mazda 3 about 80-90MPH everywhere she went - swerving in and out of traffic the whole time.. on SIDE STREETS.  If that's not bad enough she did it while smoking a joint and keeping a large bag of weed in her center console.  After about 30 minutes of this nonsense I made her turn around and take me to my hotel.  She turned it into a whole "you're too much of a wuss to smoke weed" thing but I was looking at it as 1>I don't want to spend the night in jail and 2>I don't want to get killed when she wrecks the car.  After a huge fight with me threatening to call the cops on my cell she finally agreed to take me back.  Luckily my G/F understood and I was really just saying the same things she didn't want to bring up.

She went on to explain to me that down there the cops don't care and if they catch you with marijuana they make you dump it out and give you a warning.  I told her that things are handled a little bit different where I'm from and you don't get caught driving like that AND carrying enough weed for it to be a federal offense without at least spending the night in jail.  It must be something in the air down there I swear!

I should not that two weeks after we came back home she totaled her car and cited for having illegal substances.  Unfortunately her daddy is a wealthy businessman and reprimanded her by once again buying her out of her problems along with a brand new car.  She'll never learn.

Anyway.. my point is that you might think you're all cool and stuff for "getting around the law" but these things do have a way of catching up to you.  With a car set up for performance like that you're going to tend to drive a bit more on the aggressive side.. and one day you're going to get that one cop having a bad day and you can probably guess at the rest.

Seats 8 adults comfortably..... gets 20 to 21 mpg.....fully loaded with luggage and passengers.
How many other SUV's can accommodate someone 6'4" in the third row? It always passes those other SUV's climbing
the steep grades.   :D  550 ft/lbs of torque from a 7.3L turbo-diesel Powerstroke.

I had an 02 Diesel loaded Excursion myself, best SUV ever made IMO.  Small lift and bush bars and blacked out windows, I ALWAYS got mistaken for Calgary TAC team Police units, as they drove something similar, but copied ME by buying theirs 2 years after  :lol .

Seriously, nice rig, makes me miss mine, and I'll dig out some non digital pics of it and scan a couple in.

I also had a pro photographer take some pretty cool pics of the Viper last week before the snow comes, and I'll put a couple of those up as well.

2008 BMW 328i that I just bought.  I have been wanting one for a long time and finally found one.  I tend to be an easy driver and I got just a hair over 30mpg on a 280 mile trip home. Of course I had to punch it a few times to kind of see what it would do.   I'm telling ya, this is the nicest and best car I have ever driven.  Hope I still like it when it needs some service  :lol

Older skyhawks are far better looking than the newer ones. 1963-1969 are the best.

Nice R-33 Skyline man. i always thought they were illegal in some states or in the US alone due to the US emissions laws blah blah blah. stupid laws. with those laws in place we will never see most of the great cars from around the world in the US ever.

It's one of the good things about being an Aussie, we can import and own every Skyline ever built, hoping to either upgrade to an R-34 or "downgrade" to a R-32 GTR ;)

dood.....i haven't hit 1,000 yet. i think she just turned 920 and change on the way home from mcguire this past tuesday.

i set the cruise control at 65 on the way up, and was averaging 28mpg, and nearly the same at 70 on the way back. i think that'll go up slightly as she breaks in and the weather gets a bit nicer.

it is sooooooooo friggin hard to drive that car that slow. also.....i've got shelby mufflers for her, and have a boss302 front airdam and splitter on the way.  :devil
