I thought Sun Bugs were gold and had Sun Roofs? Maybe my bad. My memory of the early 70's is blurry to say the least.

The Bike.

The chase Vehicle

My favorite ride.

John Deere Green with a Field mower, The biggest Babe Magnet ever evented.........I don't believe half of these posts. I'm a confirmed nonbeliever.

I remember Sun Bugs looked like this with black racing stripes. The racing stripes are missing from this photo, but Volkswagens didn't deserve racing stripes.

LOL, you can beleive me, who else would post a John Deere as their favorite ride...........OK......Maybe 4440.

Nice call on the 170! Great airplanes and I'm thinking of getting one myself. That's a 48', correct?

Yea it's a '48 rag wing. I get compliments every time I'm on the ramp. Economical, dependable, good looking, handles great, fantastic visibility over the nose, and hauls a decent load. I highly recommend it. That pic was snapped when I was taxiing @ Oshkosh.

Very cool man, beautiful looking plane you got there! I don't think I'd want a 48' personally (I like the metal wings from a durability standpoint in the later models), but my buddy has a 170 and my brother-in-law has an L-19. Great airframes.

Ragwings are plenty durable as long as you keep it in a hangar. Sunlight is the biggest killer. Only benefit of the metal wings (imo) are the "B" model with the fowler flaps and later wing.

Yeah I know they are really durable (I'm flying/renting a citabria right now). I'd just rather not have to worry about the sunlight as much.  :D

This was my favorite. I found her sulking behind a mechanics garage, a faded gold "sun bug". She had a squashed fender and prettiest ly crease along one of her doors.... hmmmmm I paid a couple hundred dollars for her, borrowed a plate from an uncle and drove her home. Over the next 6 months I stripped her down put in new floors a new fender and seats from a Mustang, did the rest of the body work and laid on the primer. Once on the road the upgrades slowed down....more fun driving it than working on her  :devil Then I spun a main bearing in that little old engine so I bought a long block with a special cam  :t and swapped everything over. While I had her tucked away in the garage I laid out the paint and shot it. Drove it for a couple more years until the kids were too big to fit in the back seat. Since then it's been "family" cars and vans.  :cry I miss that good ol' girl.

I told the wife she is in charge of buying cars, because the next one I buy is going to be a corvette  :devil

I even made a T-shirt with a drawing of the car on it and it said "RE-made in America!" on it  :D

What a cool looking bug .

We had one years back... a bug. It had the auto shift. One morning it would not go into reverse to back out of the driveway. Towed to the dealer and found it had a burned fuse. lol

So a fuse kept it from shifting to reverse. Neat little car though.

All 3 of my current vehicles and our house at DM AFB. I keep the bike (GoldWing) covered from the sun especially here in Southern Arizona.

I love 170s, they were (are) great airplanes. I wish someone still made a 4 place family hauling taildragger.

Why wish for something that already exists? You can pick up a nice 170 for less than 35k right now. Plenty floating around on the used market.
