Capture Smapture
« on: September 15, 2011, 07:29:04 PM »
I know this is unusual, but I have a criticism of the design of AH.  Even more unusual - I have a simple fix to this glaring bug.

It's about bailing.

When you bail in enema territory, if you make it terra firma you get a nice little message saying you've been captured.  Then you're back in your base ready room for another hop.  Your k/d gets hosed even though you're not dead.

Realistic?  No!!

Here is my solution: let a bailed pilot walk back to base to avoid the capture penalty.  It's that simple.  But think of the added gameplay - joining land battles as a gunner!  Having your squaddies send a gooney or one of those things with wheels to come get you!  Having a gunfight against other bailed pilots!  Going into cities and joining the underground to blow up a railway bridge!  Having a fling with the French resistance fighter who hasn't heard from her boyfriend since the Maginot Line was overrun!

If we're going to have a capture mode, let's have it as the same level or realism that those of us who use manual trim and actually lose consciousness during blackouts expect - you should be sent to a luftstalag and forced to tunnel your way back to the game.  Other players can be goons.  We'll need forgers and tailors.  And then there's the problem of what to do with the dirt...

It's a simple request from a simple Muskie.  Let me walk to my reward.  And save my stupid k/d.

P.S. I'm kind of serious about walking back to base to avoid capture penalty.

do you really want to virtual-walk for 2 days straight to avoid capture?

No kidding... wish I had the time to play enough to worry about score.  I barely average an hour a day for the tour.

I like the fresh air!  Plus have you ever noticed how nice it is where we're flying around?

Actually if you walk back to a point where you're closer to a friendly base than the enemy wouldn't you receive a bail rather than capture?

Great ideas! I like these two the best.

Having a fling with the French resistance fighter who hasn't heard from her boyfriend since the Maginot Line was overrun!

I want to be the guy that sweet talks items from the goons! They could implement a dialogue system so we could interact with the guards. We could have options to blackmail, out-think, threaten and romance them!

No one check your scores. You're not playing Call of Duty, Battlefield, or any other shooters where score determines how good you are (or how good of a camper you are  :D). It's all about the flying.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Great Idea!............I like it.

Nobody says you would have to walk back, just the guys concerned about their score.

I believe this is true so if you bail in enemy territory just tape your W key down and leave the computer for 3 hours and you'll be back in your territory.

As an added bonus; there will be a perk enduro motorcycle available for the attempted jump over the compound's barbed wire fence.

Personally I wouldn't mind taking a couple jeeps, halftracks ,and shermans 30 miles behind enemy lines to see about some booty.
