As an added bonus; there will be a perk enduro motorcycle available for the attempted jump over the compound's barbed wire fence.

I like the idea about the fling with the French resistance fighter who hasn't seen her boyfriend in forever

But seriously, I like the idea of being able to join a vehicle already near you... their MG gunner has been killed, and he's looking for someone for hire. AND I also like the idea of being able to pick up downed VR pilots, just like supps/fuel.

You already can walk back to base (although I suggest running) to avoid a capture.  Instead you will get a "you bailed successfully" message.  I've done this.  Once I scored six proxie kills along the way and another time I got three.  Doing this absolutely ruins your score as yor kills per time go in the toilet.

And speaking of toilets I too avoid "enema" territory.    :uhoh

Thanks BaldEagl - I had no idea!

I still think it would be fun to be able to hitch a ride or call in a dustoff.  But I also think it would be fun to farm some of God's green earth, sit the war out for a while, grow some alfalfa and forget about the killing, until some enemy squad hunts you down and you got to strap on a spit and finish what was started.

But that's the plot to The Outlaw Josie Wales.

Years ago I played Battlefield 1942 and really enjoyed it for a time but eventually tired of it because the flying physics were just plain awful. But since then I have firmly believed that a QUALITY merging of a first person shooter format such as bf 1942 with a already well established combat flight sim such as AH would be a resounding success. BF 1942 had the right idea back then IMO but just poorly executed when it came to satisfying the avid flight sim enthusiast.  AH is already very close to delivering what I envisioned and advocated Fighter Ace doing for so long.... I wonder how hard it would be to integrate a BF 1942 style FPS into AH's coding?

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

If you really want the ground war area, then fly to one of the towns that is white flagged, bail out and run to the map room, or do it at a V base, once you are in there hide in the map room, and wait for them to run troops, when the troops enter shoot them with your good ole 45, you save the base, and the other side is wondering what the frack just happened.  Or if you get shot down on a field that is being vulched, bail out and if the ack is down run to the spawn point and just stand there.  You can get 2 kills with a 45 then just wait till the good guys take the base, and you get to live in the glory of your own awesomeness, and brag about the fact that you got 2 or 3 kills with a pistol.

Much as I enjoyed reading your suggestion - and I really did chortle there at the bit about the lonely French girl - I'd have to say it's not likely, due to how much time it would take.

If it were implemented I'd probably try it once.  If for nothing else, the virtual French girl.  But then I'm sure I'd just go back to flyin'.

   :salute

I know this is unusual, but I have a criticism of the design of AH.  Even more unusual - I have a simple fix to this glaring bug.

It's about bailing.

When you bail in enema territory, if you make it terra firma you get a nice little message saying you've been captured.  Then you're back in your base ready room for another hop.  Your k/d gets hosed even though you're not dead.

Realistic?  No!!

Here is my solution: let a bailed pilot walk back to base to avoid the capture penalty.  It's that simple.  But think of the added gameplay - joining land battles as a gunner!  Having your squaddies send a gooney or one of those things with wheels to come get you!  Having a gunfight against other bailed pilots!  Going into cities and joining the underground to blow up a railway bridge!  Having a fling with the French resistance fighter who hasn't heard from her boyfriend since the Maginot Line was overrun!

If we're going to have a capture mode, let's have it as the same level or realism that those of us who use manual trim and actually lose consciousness during blackouts expect - you should be sent to a luftstalag and forced to tunnel your way back to the game.  Other players can be goons.  We'll need forgers and tailors.  And then there's the problem of what to do with the dirt...

It's a simple request from a simple Muskie.  Let me walk to my reward.  And save my stupid k/d.

P.S. I'm kind of serious about walking back to base to avoid capture penalty.

ok,if that wish were granted..then they would have to add starvation, finding fresh water and maybe contaminated water...getting rolled by a farmer with a pitchfork, raped by a horde of wild pigs,...and if lucky enough to be captured and end up in a luftstalag...then become big hans' squeak too.... he will want to.. pump....you up.all that aside..its a good general idea, but we would need more rides to make it work.....what would be better would be the availability to bail from a vehicle..or plane....and enter back into a vehicle or plane on the ground..thereby extending your that sortie.....oh but wait,i think that would defy the definition of sortie.....no matter, its a game
