Random BSOD
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:47:29 PM »
I recently build a new rig and everything works fine on it up until now. I installed AHII and the drivers for my Saitek X52 and I get random BSODs.
I am running Win7 x64, AMD 3.6 Hex Core, and a AMD 6970. It's rather frustrating to get a BSOD right in the middle of flight.
I will try to take a picture of it the next time it happens but it goes away rather quickly. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly saving Skuzzy some time here :

Another thing to be aware of.  Any abnormal game crash could corrupt a configuration file and once that happens every time the game tries to use it, it could cause the game to crash.

Move the "settings" folder out of the way after any abnormal game crash in order to do proper debugging.

Also note, if you are running any anti-anything type of program, those can cause game crashes and config corruption as well.

It's not always this game that causes it. It mainly happens when I try to open any type of program that requires a bit of "umph" for it to get going. The instances are very random too. Right now, I played for maybe 2 hours, no issues. Other times I'll jump to a new airfield for instance, BSOD.
I did reinstall the game and the res pack earlier today. Only 1 BSOD so far with the new install.

do you have that stick and the associated accessories plugged into a powered external usb hub? also, did the bsod's occur before connecting the stick or after?

How much memory does your rig have and what processes are running in background. A Dxdiag would help too.

Have you gone through the help topics at the top of this forum related to Win7?

Windows 7 x64 has a serious bug as it pertains to low power levels on the USB bus.  It will flood an application with hundreds of thousands of "device change request" messages if the power on the USB bus gets too low.  Not low enough to cause the bus to reset, but low enough to trigger an event Windows 7 x64 interprets as a new device being added or removed to/from the USB bus.

To test for this, remove as many devices from your USB bus as possible and see if the BSOD persists.

Windows 7 x32 does NOT have this problem.

I currently have 8gigs (2x4g)of RAM. I had the BSOD happen a few times without the X52, CH pedals, or anything plugged into the front USB ports. Of course had mouse and keyboard plugged into the back.
I did browse other topics and wasn't able to find anything immediately helpful. I was however able to grab this from the Microsoft error report that popped up upon reboot of my last BSOD:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   BlueScreen
  OS Version:   6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID:   1033

Additional information about the problem:
  BCCode:   124
  BCP1:   0000000000000000
  BCP2:   FFFFFA8007D71028
  BCP3:   00000000B667A000
  BCP4:   0000000000000135
  OS Version:   6_1_7601
  Service Pack:   1_0
  Product:   768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Windows\Minidump\092011-23602-01.dmp
  C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-89419-0.sysdata.xml

Checked out the error code online and the main thing I came up with is it's a video card driver issue. But I downloaded the latest driver for my 6970 a few days after I built my rig about a month ago. I never had any issues playing any other games (Fallout New Vegas, Op Flashpoint, STALKER, and other demanding games) without any issues.

Update*
Just had it crash again and produced the same error code. Was just in the hanger looking at the skins for a plane.

Got a few more BSODs of death today in rather rapid succession. Got 2 new codes, BCCode: a BCCode: 1e
After checkin' the internet I found that running memtest86 (As stated earlier by someone) was a good idea. Also to update drivers for my router. Currently running a Cisco (Linksys E1550) that is connected to my computer as well as my PS3. So I found the memtest86 and the most recent firmware for my router. Problem is, I have Power ISO and Deamon Tools but neither of them will launch the .bin files. I made sure Power ISO would recognize the format. When I mount the image(s) and try to run them, it just gives me a few folders and within those folders is "blank page" files that have no program to run with. I am sure I am doing something wrong but I don't remember any of this being so f'in complicated on XP. :furious

So I swapped slots for my RAM and that has gotten rid of every BSOD except the BCCode 124 BSOD. It is making the game very frustrating to play since I can't ever seem to keep my computer on long enough to land anything.
Here is the DXDiag if it helps any. Also, I noticed it says I only have 1773mb of video memory, I have a 6970 so it should say 2048mb, correct?
