ok ill say it again... KI-61 update...stats to think about
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:43:52 AM »
we have the KI-61-1d in the game right now,we could can have two others with the current model that could be a real benefit in the game.   first an earlier model made in quantity KI-61-1B...differenc is it has 4 x .50cal for guns, is more nimbe, turns better due to its lighter weight, climbs better and has higher top speed than current model... and second the later version KI-61-II which has more power(ha140 engine instead of current ha40 engine) and therefore has a higher climb rate and better speed, and more service ceiling but with the same guns and ords loadout as the current version.
   SPEED :  early-592kph(368mph)           current-580kph(360mph)                late-610kph(379mph)
CLIMB RATE.early-5min 31sec/5000m(2982ft/min,CURRENT-7min/5000m(2343ft/min,LATE-6 min/5000m(2734ft/min
WEIGHT,early 3130kg(6886lbs) current 3470kg(7634lbs) late 3825kg(8415lbs)(as reference KI-100 3495kg(7689lbs)
since the KI-61 need a makeover anyhow..thats my wish...all climb rate, speed and weights come directly from kawasaki...weights are loaded weights.

I agree on adding a few versions -
Ki-61-Ia
2,950kg fully loaded
Speed: 590km/5000m or roughly 367mph at 19,685
2x7.7 and 2x12.7mm K-Ha 40

Ki-61-Ib
3,130kg fully loaded
Speed: 592km/4,4860m 368mph at 15,945ft
4x12.7mm

Ki-61-II I am showing only 26 built, 69 for the Ki-61-II-Kai-A and 30 for Ki-61-II-Kai-B

The Ki-61-I-Hei with the MG151/20 option as well as the 4 MG options would be a very nice addition to the game, for he Special Events and the MA's

The Ki-100 as well  :aok

According to Francillon's Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War, 30 Ki-61-II KAI prototypes where built in 1944 and 99 Ki-61-II KA production models built in 1945.  However, these numbers are later clarified in Francillon's book when he further mentions that 374 Ki-61-II KAIs production models were actually built but only 99 were fitted with engines, and a B-29 bombing raid leveled the factory that was producing the engines which left 275 Ki-61-II KIA's sitting around with no engines.  The Ki's without the engines became the models that were converted to the Ki-100.

In Donald Nijboer's "P-38 Lightning vs. Ki-61 Tony - New Guinea 1943-1944", it goes further and mentions how 30 of the 99 finished Ki-61-II KAI production models were destroyed in the same B-29 raid that destroyed the production facilities.  It also mentions that the Ki-61-II-KAI was used for homeland defense against B-29s as at the time it was the only successful IJAAF fighter to be able to intercept the B-29s at high altitudes.

None of the Ki-61-II-KAIs that I could find were used outside of the Japanese homeland and a large number of the remaining Ki-61-II-KAIs were formed into the 10th Hiko Shidan, which was a special attack unit similar to that of the Luftwaffe's Sonderkommando Elbe.

I dont see your point ack ack, you state that the KI-61-II was built in similiar numbers as the P-47n which is in the game now, that the ki-61-II saw combat, was a production variant of a model we currently have and therfore fits all criteria for an addition in this game...and an easy one at that as we already have a similiar model to upgrade it from...thanks for the info...heres some additional info. KI-61-II shot down more allied aircraft(including b-29's) than all the japanese aircraft the  P-47 N shot down and as for units, besides regular fighter units, these aircraft served in 13 special attack units, and 3 ramming attack units as well. and to clarify Kawasaki(the manufacturer) states there was 9 prototypes and 99 production variants of this late type with ha140 engines..the rest converted to KI-100.....and we havent talked about the earlier variant with 4 x .50cal machinguns.....592 built, with active combat service in squadron strength. thanks for agreeing that we should add both in an upcoming upgrade <S>

I'm on your side Alpini, as far as the updated Ki61 is concerned......but the Ki61-II did not shoot down more A/C than any other Japanese plane. That honor goes to another plane we need in the game....the Ki43.

Big +1 on the update and new planed

you really wanna know why we have the P-47M in game? because it saw service, was squadron strength, and was a big part of WW-2. same goes for any other airplane in here.

just because a plane has more kills than another doesnt mean it cant be in the game...duh...
