I wasn't able to make it this year. We were on the way there on Friday to see the Saturday and Sunday show when we learned of the crash. We arrived in Reno about the same time word came about the rest of the event being canceled.

Some of those photos remind of a few I took last year.

Beautiful birds, although I must confess the modified racers never look as good as the original to me.  My teenage years found this racing bird flying over the house often as it was based a couple miles away.  Sadly it was destroyed in a crash after it was sold, and the original owner later was killed in a P51 crash.

The wings on The Galloping Ghost look like their ablout as long as the wings on a 190. I bet with 10 ft trimmed of each wing that thing had an impressive roll rate.

That's because the bulk of them are from last year.....

I have a picture of the P-63 from way back, it was at Harlingen airport, right after the CAF moved there from Old Rebel Field in Weslaco.  It had the orange paint even back then.  I think it was just one of the visiting birds.

Most all CAF birds are visiting. At the Museum in Galveston they rotate birds in while others are at shows.

Wonderful pictures that focus on the positive.

As long as they keep flying somewheres people wont forget.
