How about trying something new with a map in MA?
« on: September 26, 2011, 09:51:01 PM »
Randomize the country ownership of the bases instead of them all being together.  Then let's fight it out all over the map to build our country's land mass.   So Rook, Bishop, and Knight bases are just random to start the map and we go from there.  HQs and Strats would just be in their normal location.

Should create a lot more fights since many more bases will be next to enemy bases (until we start taking them over).

Good idea?

It's be chaos across the entire map the first few hours/maybe even day. And what if the "randomizer" put a enemy base right next to your strat/HQ and yours isn't? That country would be boned for hours or until they regain that base back (Which is hella hard when you got another country to deal with and no dar at all with your strats getting hit constantly.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

The non capturables would be the country that the HQ nearby is.

I still don't like the idea of not having a clue where to start. Random ... Is random... You don't know what you're going to get and it might be unfair. Examples:

One base surrounded by 3.
All bases of one country are already grouped together.
All bases of one country is scattered everywhere (you may have 2 or 3 "main bases", but there is no way you can defend the other 10+ at the same time.)
Two countries are placed in spots perfect for a ganging (2 on both sides, 1 sandwiched in the middle)
CVs/Ports are unfairly balanced (One side might have it in the main areas and can use it instantly, others might be far off in the corner)

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

One base surrounded by three should be an easy take or one heck of a fight for defenders.

All bases for one country won't be together because they are randomly assigned all over the map for all three countries.

Defending or taking 10+ bases at the same time would thin out hordes since we'd find more good fights at more bases.

Countries will develop in many sections at first and then the fight for more contiguous land will build the country based on the success of the ongoing fights.

Ports and CVs will be fought for as countries have or capture bases close to them.  Initially they are random assigned to countries just like other bases.

I think this would work best on the large maps because there will be a lot of variety in the number of bases next to enemy bases.

This will create many more fights and variety of fighting as well as more strategic thinking with respect to what bases to go after next.

For those that just want to fight there would be more fights and for those wanting to take land there would be more choices as to which bases to go after next, so everyone would benefit.

Each country would start with the same number of bases, it's just that they are assigned randomly, IE spread out over the full map, then let's see how the contiguous land grabbing develops with each base capture.

Shouldn't be hard to try one time. Might be fun.

What is wrong with our current system?

What would the bomber guys do? There would be only a sector or so to the enemy base, easy & low targets.

you could  randomize the  "inner" bases the outer bases  are assigned as normal

Nothing is wrong, just an idea to add more variety.

Bombers would plan their routes over friendly bases next to each other of which there would be several initially and more as the land grabbing of contiguous bases continues.

You would have to study the map to decide the best routes.

Could always go into a custom arena and mix up the bases by hand...

Oh and I'm sure you'll fill it up if you title the arena "Kill Midway Here"  :aok

I like the idea, but not all the time. You could have "Mixed up Monday" each week like we used to have "Titanic Tuesday".

On some maps you tend to be perpetually fighting over the same small pieces of real estate, it would let us see areas of the map we don't often get to.

I was thinking add it to the rotation so it would show up once a month or so and give us the usual 7 days to try and win it before automatic reset to the next map -- just like all the others.

If I type on 200 in a custom arena and no one else is there, do I make a sound?  :headscratch:  :uhoh
