Snakes
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:44:47 AM »
Okay I got a question on another site that baffled me.

Anybody ever hear about something (chemical) you can put on your property to repel rattlesnakes?

I've never heard of anything like it but if it exists I'm sure some AH'r will know.

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

Moth balls aren't necessarily a chemical, but seem to have some effect if you put them in areas where you have seen snakes.

Put a giant rope on the ground around your property.

Seemed to work out for rooster cogburn in true grit.  :aok  :lol

I rely on a shotgun myself but she doesn't care for firearms and the thought of a rattler around her cabin gives her the heebie jeebies.  Normally I'd point and laugh but she's a good friend of long standing (and kind of cute too) ;)

Old Greek recipe, but it should work on any kind of snake.

1) Catch the snake
2) Feed snake 30 table spoons of dry sand
3) Wait 3 days, then shoot the snake
4) Snake does not come back.  Probably because it does not like the taste of dry sand?  :headscratch:

You need a Samuel L Jackson.

Rat poison?

Get rid of the reason for snakes and you won't have any snakes.

A neighbour out here (Mojave Desert) swears by wild garlic plants at all points snakes might come in - seems to work with the poisonous variety - constrictors not so much, guess constrictors like a bit of garlic with their food.
