Dead souls? Who gets benefit? Not HTC...
« on: October 01, 2011, 03:20:42 PM »
Tonight I planned to amuse myself with some air-combatting, from about 9 to 11 PM GMT+2, i.e. Euro Prime Time. There were about 250 players on-line, 80-90 on each side, but still I found it very hard to find a fight. At appr. 10:20 PM I made this calculation:

Fields total 240
Players total 250
Flashing fields 12, which makes on the average about 20 players/attacked field, half of them attacking, half defending.

Now, I guess 10 players in a sector should make a full length darbar, correct me if I'm wrong. However, most every darbar was the shortest possible, meaning 1-2 players. Nobody was telling about hordes milkrunning, the situation was quite stable. So, if there were a handful of players at each of the dozen flashing targets on the average, where were the rest 200? AFK?

I understand it's everyone's own business how they like to use their $14,90, but: HTC has to pay for the headroom for large player quantities on servers. People who just leave their game open for sleep or work or such are actually wasting resources which could be used to develop this game.

The amount of on-line players also affects on the maps being used. If HTC believes there are hundreds of players airborne, they'll give us big maps with lots of fields. With tonight's activity a H2H arena map from AH1 with a dozen fields would have been big enough.

What I suggest, has been suggested before: To kick players out if they haven't moved from one tower in a certain time. I guess an hour would be a suitable time for that. Logging back in isn't that hard to do.

Especially with the one LW arena we have now, there's no need to "reserve your spot" anymore. Play or get out.

If you were only going by the size of the dar bar then you only have part of the picture.  When the fights get dragged down to the deck a lot of the players are below the dar bar's hard deck and don't show.  Also, the dar bar is notoriously sketchy. I've been at 15k on my way to a fight and never registered a dar bar, same for the bad guys.

You also cannot tell how many are playing ACES HIGH in a GV.

Get a plane folks.

FYI Cleric, if it is only you in the sector it will not show you a dar bar but it does show it to everyone else, friendly and enemy, along as you are above the minimum altitude of coarse.

Instead of giving poor advice, why not suggest players get into whatever is fun for them, be it a tank or plane?

I have asked squdies if they were showing anything and they said no.  I think that there may some glitchyness in the system.

Players listed as "in flight" mean not in the tower. They could be in a plane, a gv, a pt boat, a manned gun, etc.  So yes, you can tell how many are not sitting in the tower.

They may, however, be sitting in a GV 100 miles from anyone for no apparent reason.

A little more clarification now that I'm not that tired and p***ed: I checked several flashing fields for action, but in every case there was only one or two attackers and enough defenders. I also escorted a single bomber formation on his way to enemy HQ and tried to fool the enemy away from the bomber by flashing their nearby fields in the opposite corner of the sector we were in, trying to fly NOE in their radar circle. No one of the about 90 players in that country upped to see what it was about. With a skilled bomber and a couple of attackers that base would have been an easy take. Yet during those two hours I noticed only one base informed as taken. So the evidence points to the conclusion that there were not many active players.

I always thought "inflight" meant anything other than the tower.

Sadly, I believe it's because the majority of the current player base is of the game-players mindset that it's more important to "win" than to "play".

but what are they "winning" besides a few perks and a different Map which most already have played 100's times over?  like many other have said it's the mindset of some of todays players.

I will never understand this "there's no fights anywhere" statement.  every day I log in, no matter how many players there is, within a couple of flying time i can find some other airplane to shoot at.

last night there was about 60 or 70 players and there was plenty of planes to shoot at.  so I think this "no fights anywhere" statement that people like to use is just bs.
