Argh, my beard is starting to come in.  I don't really know what to do about it.  I could shave it with a straight razor, a safety razor, or an electric razor.  I could also wax it or have it removed via laser beam.  Shaving sounds like a hassle, and a potentially life-threatening one at that; I could nick some big blood vessel while trying to get that last bit of beard off.  Waxing sounds painful, and lasers sound expensive.

What can I do?  Preferably, I'd like to get it removed permanently.  I just can't see myself as a kid with a hairy face.

No, Penguin, shaving is not dangerous. Get a safety razor and use cream and water. I nowadays don't even use cream, I can get as close as ever with a Gilette Fusion and cold water (though I still prefer warm if I can get it  :D)

I know guys who use electric shavers but I don't like it. It sure is really easy but I see them miss spots all the time. If you use a safety razor with cream you just keep shaving until your face is clean.

Most of the time though I just use a beard trimmer like an electric shaver, it keeps the 5 o'clock shadow look that I like. I only shave clean when I go to drill.

Just shave it off.  A razor (the Gillette Fusion is popular, but also kind of expensive, or just some disposable razors) and a can of shaving cream.  No doubt the strait razor crowd will be here momentarily to enlighten us of the superiority of their strait razors, but you really can't justify the cost of that for what you're doing.  If you wax your face... I don't know what to say, don't do it.  But if you do film it for us.

Whatever you do, get rid of it (for now), nothing worse than those high school kids with the freaky thin 'stash above their lip.

Do not shave until you MUST!  Once you start shaving it starts to grow in faster and faster.  I'm one of the lucky ones in this world that has blond whiskers so I dont get the daily 5 O'clock shadow and I dont need to shave every day like most guys.

Do not settle on 1 way to shave this early in your life.  I say get a cheap electric and tinker with that for a month or so.  If you feel the need to grab a blade then get some good shaving cream and go slow and dont dig too deep, or else your face will look like a peperoni pizza.

I'm 38 and have been shaving every 2-3 days since I was 22 or so.  I cant use a blade because my hair follicles grow out of my skin at an angle and I cut the *&%$#@ out of myself no matter how careful I am, AND it leads to ingrown hairs in a major way.  So... you have along life ahead of you so take it easy.  Welcome to another step closer to man-hood!    :)

If you are scared of cutting yourself then get an electric razor.  You're a guy, shaving is just something you have to deal with.  The only way to remove the hair for good without any horrible scarring (see blow torch) is with a laser treatment.  Personally, I had the hair on my neck/throat area lasered off from just below my jaw line down to my collar bone area.  I always hated shaving my neck area but I like to grow a beard or mustace, so I didn't want to get rid of it all.

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

I'm beginning to see what you guys are saying.  Until I figure out exactly what I want to do with my hair, I'' use an electric razor with cream.  If things get hairy, I'll step it up to a Gillette Fusion, and then if it gets totally out of control, a straight razor.
