How does this spec-up look?

Poking at the idea of building myself a new one. The mobo can probably use some work, but I don't want to spend a fortune. There's a nice gigabyte black one I would consider getting (159 on egg I think).

Also I have a couple other HDDs ill be throwing in as well, no need for a big one atm.

if you looking at possibly changing to a different MB,  I think I read somewhere that PCIe 3.0 is out now, even think MSI has some boards with it............something worth researching anyways perhaps....

I like ASUS'  AMD MB with the 5 yr ( or 7 yr ) warranty & military grade components...... ( you might get lucky and catch one real cheap on Shell Shocker @  newegg, I watch that daily myself to see what might show up )

you really don't need 6 cores, I would drop to a quad core and go for the Phenom II 980  3.7 GHz quadcore, should about equal out in price or close to it......

I would go with a good $150+/- ASUS MB also, that comes with MemOK, TurboKey II(or III? ) , Turbo Unlocker etc... features ,  seems I sometimes run into an issue with memory when dealing with Gigabyte MB's....  YMMV  though.....

anyhows,  good lil build you got going there ( I have no experience with OCZ PSU's.....  I have recently started leaning toward the Thermaltake TR2 RX  model series )

I would say TC is right go for the quad core 3.7

games are barely getting into quad core some still are on duel...

I like the MB

I would also think about a more powerful PSU...Id find a 1,000 watt.

I see a triple monitor with that set up

I thought I saw three slots for monitors on that graphics card.....that's what I would get

i would spend 30 more bux on a cpu cooler. My phenom II 955 runs cool and quiet on the cooler master hyper212+ (overclocked to 4GHz, 1.4V voltage instead of the 1.35V default, never goes over 45C). Had problems with the default cooling.
Ink's better psu only can be useful if youre planning a crossfire system badly overclocked (heck, that 700w one should be enough to run 2x6950s...)

As to building with a black board in a black case; it looks real cool, but make sure you have a very well lit area to do it in.  I had a hell of a time building one in my not so well lit basement a while back.  Just sayin.

Didn't know that 2GB version existed, sweet.
Grabbed the 980, the 2GB version, 1TB Black, and a Corsair TX750 psu.

That is really stretching out my funds heh. Found some ASRock mobo that is more black but not sure if it's good at all. I like Gigabyte personally...never issues with that or with OCZ PSU's. Also debating on 16gb of ram over 8, for 50 bucks more.

Anyone have exp with the Tempest 410? Does it have any LED accent lights?

My ASRock Board is PCI-e 3.0 (It is an intel P67 board though, Don't know if they make an AMD board)

Spikes I have the 2gb overclocked version and I am happy with it. With AH being the only game I play I can run Full eye candy without a sweat.

And trust me when I say you have LOTS of airflow and room for updating parts and water cooling when and if you decide to go that route.

this is the case I have and its the same price as the tempest. comes with 5 fans and Ian 3 ports up front along with a top mount connection for hot swapping drives without having to open the case. I love it. my only complaint is the side window is kind of a sepia tint not clear.

Rename the colour of the window to something that you like more, if you don't like squids. How about "Highland Malt Hue" or "Hickory Smoked King Salmon" or "On Top of Old Smoky" or "Puff of the Magic Dragon"? Find the right name and you'll love the tint. Like "beige" is a dull light brown, but "Latte" has a nuance of the glamorous Paris, France.
