back from a long hiatus with a new computer and Video problems
« on: October 14, 2011, 10:04:44 PM »
So I've been gone from the game for about a year now, and i'm back!. I loaded AH up for the first time on my new computer, Win 7 64 bit, i5, dell xps8300 stock video card,( but i dont know what it is) anyway.

all the planes look like squares flying around, even the water reflections and shadows are squares. and Players ID are grey and randomly flashing green. I never encountered an enemy so I dont if they show up red or grey. the terrain itself looks great,  and the game performs perfectly. I love all the new stuff and new planes by the way. I have all my video setting at default settings. Thanks for the help! I cant wait to try out some of those new planes I saw.

If it is a onboard vid ca chipset it isnt as good as having a vidcard. Post a dxdiag here with the 1st 1/3 pasted here..

I'm not sure how the two games compare But I can run MS Flightsim, on Max resolution Full detail, and its perfectly smooth. Also the terrain in AH is perfect for me. it's just the planes that are squares and the player's ID that are flickering green and gray.

I reinstalled the game this time without the hires pack. everything look normal but the ID's both friendly and enemy appear to remain mostly grey but they will intermittently flicker their respective colors. the on-screen info (ctrl+I) also flickers grey and green.

intel graphics chip, won't render in ah well using hires pack or even 512 textures. ms flightsim doesn't push the graphics quite as hard as ah does.

In your screen shot, the button to the right of the "next page" will save the report as a txt file. Save it to your desktop, open it with notepad, and copy and paste the first third,up to and including <Sound Devices>, of the info here in this thread. Its easier to do and give more info to help.

The onboard intel graphics are not very good at 3D graphics. When you start the game, click the video button and knock the texture size down to 256 and try it again. While it may not be as pretty, it won't push the graphics as hard and might be able to maintain the ID info colors.

fish, when you open that text file, use your mouse to highlight all the text you want to copy to a forum post by holding down the left mouse button and dragging it down through the text until everything you want to copy is highlighted. once everything you want to copy is highlighted, right click anywhere on the highlighted area, then left click on the word copy. start a reply here in the forums and right click anywhere in the box you would normally type in, then left click on the word past.

all the text in that screen shot plus the next section down that shows your audio devices is normally all that is needed.

those screen shots are tough to read for us old dogs...

I have been messing with the video setting, I can set the game on all min setting and 128 texture and I still get the problem. I can also run the game on max everything and it is still flawless exept the flickering names. Sceenies in  a minute.

DX11 is backwards compatible with DX9 but you may get better results if you install DX9 on your PC to run AH.

Download this program and install it on your PC.

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35

It won't hurt anything and it may help.

*edit* nevermind, that's a stand alone installer that doesn't appear to try and over write directx 11. had to double check that download, had me worried...it's still not a good idea.

the main problem is the graphics chip itself. not matter what you do short of using an actual video card, you're going to have some weird issues.
