Okay, nice Snailman, how long did it take you to get that perfect alignment of the clipboard? Riddle me this Batman: Now take that same view and zoom in or out and see what the clipboard does? Depending on what % of zoom you are in will determine the position and size of the clipboard. Almost always locating the target in front gunner position takes a larger/ smaller zoom than used in bombadier position (also dependent on altitude).
Hap,
Making too broad of a direction change in the last few seconds from the bombadier position changes true air speed, in fact the gunner position is the only place where these changes do little if anything to the current airspeed. Maybe you should try it and compare, I have.
Back to clipboard position, pictured by Snailman. Okay, I use my clipboard for a number of things no just looking for my current speed in the bombsight. When I am rtb with fuel leaks, I like to keep an eye on fuel tanks and mins remaining. Also, I use it most extensively while flying to locate my direction relative to airfields. I would have to adjust and readjust the clipboard position too much using it for other purposes.
