Nice work HTC Bomber current speed in Bombadier window
« on: October 29, 2011, 04:28:24 PM »
Thanks HTC for putting the Bomber's current speed in the bombadier window  :rock

This is wonderful in many ways for me.  Whether or not it is old age, I still have been know to misidentify an ammo bunker for a fighter hanger.  I try and reduce this by using my zoom in the forward gunner's position.  This allows me to line up correctly before entering the bombadier's seat.  Switching from gunner position to bombadier zoomed in didn't allow the clipboard E6b to display the current speed BEFORE this addition.  So, there were critical seconds just before a bomb drop that were being taken up by adjusting and readjusting zoom elements in as many as 3 different windows.  Now I can set a comfortable zoom and practically stick with it, with a greater degree of sucess.

This also helps a great deal when having to swing around for multiple passes on the same field.   :salute

Stang,

I will try and break it down.  Sorry I get long winded.

In order to get an accurate run on a specific target, I need to be able to #1  see that target,  #2  get the exact line on that target  #3 have the correct calibration for that target.

E6b failed to:

#1 show me current speed while zoomed in  #2 not block my field of view of target

Bombadier window allows me to:

#1 Switch from a zoomed front gunners position for steering to a zoomed bombadier's position, while verifying my calibrated speed matches my current speed +/- 2 mph.

Oddly enough, I never had this problem. Adjusting size & location of my clipboard allowed my to be fully zoomed in with a clear target view yet having a good look at my current speed.  :headscratch:

Then Snailman, you either have better eyesight, a larger screen or both.  I will never forget how annoyed I was at computer manufacturers for making their serial and model information in such a small font.  Who the heck did they think would be able to read that, especially in low light?  -- That was before I discovered that my arms were growing shorter and that light bulb manufacturers had failed their quality control for proper wattage.

HTC has just evened the playing field for me.  Thanks again.  :salute

same here except i have the E6B showing the climb rate to. i use the + - keys to adjust the throtle to zero climb once you have zero climb rate maintained i just calibrate moments before with a silent 10 second count, then bombs away.

Why would you want your clipboard up while trying to sight your target.
Are you tight with machfly?

Okay, nice Snailman, how long did it take you to get that perfect alignment of the clipboard?  Riddle me this Batman:  Now take that same view and zoom in or out and see what the clipboard does?  Depending on what % of zoom you are in will determine the position and size of the clipboard.  Almost always locating the target in front gunner position takes a larger/ smaller zoom than used in bombadier position (also dependent on altitude).

Hap,
Making too broad of a direction change in the last few seconds from the bombadier position changes true air speed, in fact the gunner position is the only place where these changes do little if anything to the current airspeed.  Maybe you should try it and compare, I have.

Back to clipboard position, pictured by Snailman.  Okay, I use my clipboard for a number of things no just looking for my current speed in the bombsight.  When I am rtb with fuel leaks, I like to keep an eye on fuel tanks and mins remaining.  Also, I use it most extensively while flying to locate my direction relative to airfields.  I would have to adjust and readjust the clipboard position too much using it for other purposes.

Okay, nice Snailman, how long did it take you to get that perfect alignment of the clipboard?

A few seconds. Resize it, then grab it and drag it there. Maybe some fine tuning. Not longer than half a minute at most.

So do I. I constantly use my cipboard for all of this, but yet I don't have any idea why it should be a hassle. When I fly bombers, I will simply let it in this position, only when I'm back in a fighter I will drag it to a more convenient place.. which will take just another 10 seconds at the start of a flight.

I am glad that you all have perfect eyesight or whatever.  Simply said and NO ONE can dispute having the current speed right next to the calibrated speed in the bombadier screen was not an improvement.

I can tell all of you to continue to do whatever, but for me my hands are free of fumbling to zoom in and out for last second adjustments or fiddling with my clipboard position

It's rock and roll for me baby.  As for hitting targets, just ask anyone who has seen me on an uninterrupted bomber run, if I can see it in time and calibrate in time it is going down period.

Now if only we could get the now-shortened damage list moved down below the bombsight readout and gunner ammo counts.

Ooz, I am not sure if you are joking.  Bombing and gunning at the same time really?  Besides, unlike the fiddling with the clipboard side and position, just to have it visible and not entirely block your visibility from the bombadier position, I have seen the damage report listed along with the bombadier information.  Now, if I am reading this correctly, you want it moved to another location so that it doesn't overwrite the bombadier information as it currently does IIRC.

I can hear the pings and even the aircraft on approach, because I don't have my internal engine racing in my ears.  I agree that a damage report would confirm that enemy is in range.  I usually know that ahead of time.

This brings up another flaw with Snailman's E6B.  a good portion of my ventral view (SA) is blocked, leaving me potentially more vulnerable to attacks from below.

When something is great, I wonder why we must go to such legnths to say otherwise.
