Losing UDP

Whenever I enter an arena I lose UDP right away...When that happens I can't use vox or hear anyone else use it...

VOX uses UDP exclusively, so when you lose UDP, you lose VOX.  You only lose UDP if there is excess packet loss on the Internet connection.

If the game is truggling to get all the resources it needs (mainly due to Windows), then you can also lose UDP that way.  Turn down the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256, or 128 and disable all the Options->Graphic Details->Advanced options and see if the problem goes away.  If it does, then it is a resource issue with the computer.

I (and a few others I've mentioned it to) have recently experienced loss of VOX  - TRANSMISSION - I continue to HEAR the channels, but they don't hear me, don't hear beeps, and the transmit lights do not light up ... generally vox transmit ability comes back on within 10 -15 minutes. ? Vol. also comes up and goes down at times ??? Is this UDP failure ??? Computer has DSL connection, 3m Ram, 28mhz processor, XP2. ??? I HAVE seen messages about UDP? loss and dropping back to TCIP? but it didn't affect vox that I'm aware of ?   :headscratch:

UDP loss will always impact VOX.  If you see the message about the game losing UDP and switching to TCP, there is packet loss occurring on the connection between you and the servers.  The message is pretty drastic as the game does everything it can to maintain a healthy connection to the servers, but it cannot overcome Internet related issues.

The best way to determine where or if any packet loss is occurring is to run Ping Plotter to 206.16.60.38 and see if it shows any packet loss.  This is best done immediately after a connection issue occurs.

If no packet loss is occurring, then kick down the resources, as I stated before, and see if the problem goes away.  One of the most common problems I deal with is people thinking thier computer can handle the game, at max graphic settings, because they run some other very pretty game without realizing the measure of the demands a game can place on a computer is not only how it looks.  The visuals are only part of the load and most of that load is on the graphics card, not the rest of the computer.

THX for the info. It's not a glaring problem, just one I didn't understand. I know what you mean about computer resources ... I've got this one tweaked as closely as possible I think ... Cutting off the viral security and disabling tracers has helped my frame rate immensely ... Sticking to 512 textures until I get a better Graphics Card ...  :joystick:
