<S> to Those gone and those left behind
« on: November 01, 2011, 06:04:21 PM »
This may have already been posted, but I didnt see it.  Was posted elsewhere by a friend of mine, and I felt it should be shared.

The night before the burial of her husband 2nd Lt. James Cathey of the United States Marine Corps, killed in Iraq, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of "Cat", and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept.
"I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it" she said.
"I think that's what he would have wanted".

-Not sure what is more honorable: Being married to this faithful wife to the end or the Marine standing next to the casket watching over them both.

:salute :pray To all those gone and those left behind.

There are a lot of things the Marines get right.  This story may be the best example I've ever read of what Semper Fi means.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

<S> and sorry for her loss and his family's loss.

One of my very best friends is a retired Marine. He moved to Canada with his wife years ago (A Canadian girl) and they are raising their kids here in Alberta. A finer individual you could never meet.

I agree eagl, there are a lot of things Marines get right and this is a shining example.

Semper Fi  indeed.

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Have a couple of Marine buddies who are reservists and they have stood guard like that for a few men that came home for the final time from around here. Talking with them after the fact and they say its the best duty they have ever pulled in order to make sure that the Marine gets to the family and no one bothers him at the end.
