I'm looking forward to this one for sure.  Makes me wanna find my MechCommander CD.  I played the original Mechwarrior along with the vastly more popular (and very good) MW2 (great soundtrack btw), but to me MechCommander 1 was the most fun.

Piranha Games and Smith & Tinker were behind the MW5 promo back in 2009. They tried in vain to get a publisher to fund it, but after two years they've managed to sell it as a online multiplayer "free to play" game. Hopefully this will be successful and revitalize the franchise. Who knows, maybe it will justify a grandiose MW5 single player campaign style game in the future.

To those who are worried they'll do something horrible and unholy to the Battletech universe: Jordan Weisman is the founder of Smith & Tinker, and was also the founder of FASA Corporation. Battletech is his baby. MechAssault was Microsoft's abomination.

I can still remember the days of placing huge maps on the bar and having an all night Battletech brawl till the wee hours of the morning.  I still have some of the miniatures.  If it was a war game I wanted to play it  :lol.

This one was my favorite

Yup. Battletech started out using licensed Robotech models. They are now called "unseen" mechs since they lost the rights to use them.

Yea, that bit the big one, The Marauder series was always my favorite.

Marauder

Warhammer

Jenner

Archer

I remember them all fondly . I know there is an online table top game out there (or was ) don' t remember the site name though . As I was checking out this new game , I found myself reminicing about the old days of pencil and paper wars , and how fun it was to tweak a mech or design a totally new one , and drop them on the board and let your opponant try and figure it out . I hope that Mech design is a strong feature of this new game . Also I hope they bring effective long range nonmech threats to the heavies (Arty , heavy armor ) to give the lights and mediums something real to do , or it's just going to be Heavy's everywhere slugging it out in the middle of the map , with a light sprinkling of smaller mech parts scattered around them . Oh and PPC's!!!!!......god i miss PPC's .
Sooo....What , are those guys here to kill you because God forgot too ?

In the games I played the Marauder always seemed to have a glass jaw.  I can regale you with many accounts of Marauders going out far, far earlier than their armor and tonnage says they should have.  Warhammers, despite having less armor, always took a lot more pounding to go down for me.

The link below is the website of the NBT (NetBattleTech) leage.  They had taken MW4/Mercs down to the bone and were able to build mechs even without M$'s blessing.  We had over 100 mechs at 1 point in the league.  It lost a lot of players when Guild Wars came out, many players went off to chase fairies and left their MW teams hanging in teh breeze.  If you look of the Fed Suns, you will see =FS= Benn, that was me.  :)  When my ability to be the CO of the FedSuns diminished because I didnt have the time, I helped with the Northwind Highlanders and played with them for quite some time.  That was a lot of fun.  I hope the league restarts again if MW5 does in fact go live.

Partly because, if your games were like mine, the Marauder drivers thought they were invincible and charged forward while everyone on the other side was targeting them because of their reputation- I had the same experiences with them. Warhammers usually seemed to last longer for the simple reason that they were usually played (at least in my games) as snipers or line-anchors, using their PPCs until the fight got close enough to finish them off with the SRMs and other little stuff, depending on the configuration. They also made great support for command 'Mechs.

Since theres a few old-timers around, did anyone ever have anything good to say about LAMs? AFAIK, they were universally loathed, at least in my experience.

Oh, and Lyran Commonwealth Forever!

Nah, I mean true glass jaw luck.  I recall one fight in which my lance, Marauder, Warhammer, Hatchetman and Vindicator, were advancing towards what was to be a messy three sided fight.  First shots at my lance had rounds fired at both the Marauder and Warhammer.  An enemy Blackjack hit the Marauder in the head with an AC2, knocking it out.  The pilot then failed to regain consciousness for five rounds and when he did he immediately took a PPC to the head from a Battlemaster and died.

In another case I had a Warhammer in a close quarters fight with a Marauder, got an average hit on it with my SRM6, four missiles hit.  Head, Center Torso (Critical), Head, Center Torso (Critical).

I know it was just RNG, but we just had the things go down way too easy too often.
