AH-style Jet warfare?
« on: November 04, 2011, 05:32:23 PM »
Are there any good Jet-style flight simulators on the web that are similer to AH in the sense that its a large open world, and it also has a free offline mode?

Not really...

The Digital Combat Simulator series might work for you, but it's a whole lot of realism with only two planes to choose from. (If you buy both games that is).

Falcon 4.0 just got updated so you could check that out.

Microsoft Flight Sim 2004 and X is also good if you're just looking for relaxation.

Those 3 sims are as close as realism gets. Then you got the other side of the spectrum with arcade flight sims.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

There was a "competitor" called "TK" (can't remember what it stood for) that started off with korean war jets with AH style realism, but I think it petered out after a few years of development and testing.  While it lasted they made a ton of progress, but it never got to a full release or pay to play.  As a pure air combat flightsim it was pretty darn good though, better in some ways than AH.

Edit:  I remember now, it was called "targetware", and they had "Target: Korea", "Target: Vietnam", and maybe WWI/WWII too.  Pretty high fidelity flight model, great aircraft models and skins, as much realism as you could handle for aircraft systems including the option to have significantly more realistic engine modelling than AH, which would get a dedicated gamer a slight advantage over a player flying in "easy mode".

The website is still up, but it hasn't been updated since 2008 and some of the sub-sites are gone.

Target Korea appears to be gone completely.  Dunno about the rest.

Thirdwire sims remind me a lot of AH as far as graphics and such. Not sure about online play with it though.
