so when i close the bolt all the way with a bullet loaded i get a loud CLICK and the bullet casing ejects with notches in it....i have yet to fire it because of this
That "click" is part of the firing mechanism, no worries. Mosin-Nagant's have a little bit of typical Soviet engineering (loosy-goosy), so it inst going to be a highly engineered piece of work and it is going to make funny noises. The "notches" are from the extractor and/or the ejector. My Mosin-Nagant is the same fire/
Just load it up and fire the damned thing. You are not going to hurt it and it isnt going to hurt you, that thing has been through Hell and back and your trip to the range, gravel pit, or back woods to shoot at a target is a cake walk compared to what it has been though. Just check the bore for obstructions (while the gun is unloaded!), and have fun.
