LST Land Ship Tank
« on: November 04, 2011, 05:31:19 AM »
I know this is my second or third post of the week, however this may be a nice addition to the game. If we want to get tanks to the beach, what do we need, they can't just float (Well, the Shermans in D-Day did, but it doesn't count).

Introducing the LST, many models have been made, doesn't matter which one we get, somebody propose a model of LST I guess.

But what we will need is a new system, how will we be able to "control" it. This will be quite diffrent from any other piece of the game, we're either going to escort other people to the beach in the LST, or we're going to take ourselves to the beaches. I can see this working but it's going to be quite diffrent, all I know is that the LVT-4 with that tiny cannon will NOT do anything. We need an LST honesly, either that or a troop carrying Higgins.

the LVT-A4's "tiny cannon" does much more than you think. you need to learn how to use it correctly.

if we do get a LST i want one with the 1000+ rockets on it! :t

If this was ever included, here is how I see it being implemented.  One player spawns the LST from a CV group, drives the LST up to the beach and basicaly "runs it aground" similar to your picture above. Only once the LST is grounded on the beach and the bow doors are open, does it then becomes a GV hangar in that spot for a predeterminded amount of time or untill it is destroyed by the enemy.  Once it has taken on the role of a GV hangar then the player who was driving the LST could then end sortie without causing the LST to disappear. I figure a limit of 2 LSTs spawned at one time per CV group.

Just my $.02

I'd like to see the LVT2 be able to haul a jeep like it actually did in WWII.  Inside that jeep there would be 2 gv supplies or 3 troops.

actaully there is a better lvt i dont know why we use the lvt 2 the lvt4(without the howitzer) has 2 50 cals 2 30 cals and armor and could carry jeeps...or in some cases it even had a 20mm

but a differant way to land support for assualts would be nice i think the only thing people are generaly forgetting is these things didint land if the shore line was "hostile"(they are tanker ships not battleships)

but way i see them being used it player ups LST once up people can join the player and pick what tank they want(perked or not) up to about 15-20ppl(that way we dont have a hoard of 150 tanks rolling out of 1 ship) then when the lst makes landfall doors open and ppl flood out and then lst driver can stick around for air support or tower before things get hot

I think that's his point.

I don't think realism of use should be a determining factor in addition. We do SOOOOO much crazy, half-suicidal stuff with our aircraft and GV's, I don't see how the point in a battle that something was used should be considered.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

so when do we not have control of a beach near an airbase? usually CV's flood the beach with LVT's and the defenders normally send a few planes to mow em down. the LST had defensive guns you know.

Could be used as a sneaky way to get some heavy hitting gv's on shore before the cv group is detected, so avoid the whole "need a beach head", and go with "dont up until the LST's get to shore!!!"
