For most people the sky is the limit.  For a pilot the sky is home.

Will play it a few times today in memory of the ship and crew.

I always think of the ship at the bottom of a deep, ice-cold lake - but if you stood her on end, she'd stick up 200' above the surface of the water where she lays.
Even a huge lake like Superior is shallow compared to the length of the ships that ply her waters.    The Fitz's bow could have struck bottom and the stern could've still been on the surface.

The Fitz's bow could have struck bottom and the stern could've still been on the surface.

According to current theory this is exactly what happened. The ship dove under a wave, powered down until the bow hit bottom and the weight of the unsupported aft part of the ship snapped her in two.

ya know?

way back when i first heard this song, i loved it. i still do to be honest. way back when i first heard it, i had no clue what it was about, or that it was true.

even realizing that it is in honor to those men, knowing the meaning still makes the song a little less enjoyable though. :salute

It is a great tune bro.

my uncle was friends with one of the men on the Big Fitz. as far as i know, he still doesn't like to talk about it, and while he says he likes the song, he won't listen to it.   i like the song too, but it has always made feel really sad.  terrible tragedy  :frown:    R.I.P. crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald
