Friendly Collision / Shooting
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:25:20 PM »
A really simple aid to realism would be to turn on friendly collisions and the ability to shoot friendlies.   You'd have to be more careful in furballs and especially when five of you are ganging up on that lone con that's desperately trying to avoid a certain death.    You'd have to be careful landing and taking off - and you'd be cursing the friendly wirble sitting in the middle of the runway.  The key thing is that this wouldn't take any HTC time to accomplish.   Switch 'em on HiTech!

...and if your wing man wants the kill bad enough all he has to do is shoot you down before he shot the enemy down. No thanks. I have enough trouble dodging enemy attacks, don't need to add friendlies too.

You might get a bit of that, but the community would police itself.   Those that purposefully shot down their countrymen would find themselves victimized by their own guys.   The upside would be a much less gamey environment, which I would welcome.

it is just a game...why would you expect non-gamey anything from a game?

It would rapidly turn into a free for all.  There would be no effective community policing.  Bob shoots Joe down.  Joe goes to shoot Bob down in retribution, but Frank sees this and, having not been online for the instigating incident, shoots Joe down to defend Bob.  It escalates from there.

I dont know why people keep calling the MA's "realistic", their the farthest thing from that in this game. (other than maybe the DA)

And every new player would a dire threat to everyone because he will run into or shoot you just because he doesn't know better.

Apart from that, Karnak mentioned the main reason: The carnage would be of epic proportions. It did not work in the small DA, it will not work in the MA.

It is something that would put an end to Aces High.  So I'll file this wish under, "Hell No". :aok

Wow Lusche.  Doubt the new guy much? :lol

Though I would have to admit, more than a few times I'd see some new guy start taking shots at friendlies only to find themselves in the tower.  Seems to be a growing trend too... :noid  Then again, I've only been playing since T113, minus a little gap where RL hit like a brick wall.

Wow Lusche.  Doubt the new guy much? :lol

It's a natural thing. People download the game and then just hop into a plane. I did so too.  "Oops... Did I do that?"     :bolt:
How many new players can control their plane perfectly before taking off for the first time?

With friendly collisions and kills, you would have to do the real thing: Train new players for extended times before entrusting them a plane for the first time, Set up STRICT rules of engagement, and massively enforce them by a higher hierarchy of players.
Or you can just accept human nature and let killshooter do the work ;)

The very first thing I did when I got online was shoot at an orange colored stuka (was friendly on same vox channel, 101), and when I went down I thought "Hmm got me with his tail gun."

It was a few minutes later when I discovered the difference between the icon colors in the GUI options menu. I then apologized on country channel saying "was that a friendly i just shot at? sorry"

Nowadays I like to think about how :rofl that apology must've looked to everyone else.

Has pretty much the same result. "Friendly" players try to ram you just because they can: "Look there's that Snailman clown coming home with his 262... watch this, gonna be funny!".
Or because they can't control the plane good enough yet. You would have treat any unknown (and many known) green guy like an enemy. Same chaos & carnage as with killshooter off. It simply doesn't work in an unstructured game with several thousand players of whom several hundred are online.
