The Aeronca L-3 GrassHopper
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:55:27 AM »
It can be our first observation and liaison aircraft were used by the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. It can be piloted and the other passenger takes pictures (like a spy plane) and what I'm thinking that this plane will collect data on CVs, airfields and more and the pictures will be posted in the tower or the Club and it will take time for the pictures to come like 10-15*.   :noid

A grass hopper flying into enemy airspace to take pictures of airfields.

Two questions arise:

1. What would that pictures help? I have pictures of all of them on my clipboard already. And everybody playing for more than a day quickly knows the layout by memory...
2. What are the chances of an unarmed 87mph plane to get home with the pics at all?  :devil

"It will COLLECT data" from the ships etc and the airfields so we can do a bombrun or look at how the towns look like...i don't know if it is a REALLY bad choice we jest need spyplanes.

got plenty of those already included...just look at the list of airplanes in the hangar and pick one. all of them are faster than 87mph, can fly from 100ft to 30,000+ ft...not to mention almost all of them have the ability to defend themselves.

if you really want to fly low and slow, grab your plane of choice and cut the throttle back until it's just above stall. problem solved.

+1 for the plne but -1 for the role

I've asked for this in the past, but would like to see it enabled from the large hanger on GV bases, to scout for GVs when the nest airfield is a long flight away..... kind of a FAC role.

YES, you'd be easy meat for a wirble, but the value is there for the tankers and guys in manned guns.

Also, allow the pilot to have to .45 like the guy in the chute does, so you could DA these guys, and shoot at each other out of the window, cowboy gunfight style!

Then what about the Fi-182 stork....
how easily could it be shot down with a .30 or .50 cal machine gun? be better off with a stinson l-1 vigilant...

why not just ask for a couple of the wwi biplanes to be enabled at the gv and ship bases? same chances of survivability...

+1 for the role.  Any of the Liaison planes work work for this.  And should we ever get artillery in the game...you have a spotter.

A Boomerang would do that well, not so easy meat and have a little smoke to toss out  :aok ....a far better  plane to get!

Or jump out of the plane and run into enemy map room?

I would agree w/a small dirt runway at GV fields w/rarmpad. I mean....These thing are in the middle of nowhere how do you get to them? Got to fly there right?
Okay..Add 2 Country's at once, Australia and France next plane update Add ...CAC Boomerang and the Dewoitine D.520

Yes, but the Boomerang was a fighter technically, not an observation/FAC bird...

And firewall the throttle in one of these while in the big hanger on a GV base and you'd be airborn before you hit the grass:

I honestly think that the only way that spyplanes could be useful is if clipboard maps would be removed, and there are secret strategic targets scattered all over the map that randomly place themselves somewhere else everytime the arena reboots that do not appear on the clipboard. I don't see that happening anytime soon. I'm just saying, but I'd love to actually see this myself  :O
